About this product

Product Information

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance was developed by Intelligent Systems for the Nintendo GameCube, and it had a release date of October 17th, 2005. It was the first Fire Emblem game on the system. Like previous Fire Emblem games, the objective of Path of Radiance is to command a team of warriors through a series of engagements. Each engagement represents a unique tactical challenge as well as an opportunity for the characters to level up and grow into new skills and abilities. With turn-based combat and a clever combo system, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance offers a unique and long-lasting challenge for any GameCube owner. As with other Fire Emblem games, Path of Radiance focuses on turn-based combat within a map grid. Portions of the grid present obstacles, height advantages or disadvantages, and other tactical challenges for the individual units to overcome. Players must carefully position their units and use their powers to overwhelm opponents and exploit their weaknesses. The weapon for each character uses a "Triangle" advantage system with each of the three weapons having both a strength and a weakness to exploit. Magic is similar with three options to choose from. Each unit will be more proficient in the use of certain weapons and skills and have unique abilities to unlock as they level up. In total, there are 19 characters that can be unlocked over the course of the game plus the primary player character. Each unit also has a class that helps summarize how it should best be tactically employed. Any unit that is killed in a level will remain dead for the rest of the game, which presents an exciting tactical challenge for players. The plot of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance revolves around a mercenary named Greil and his first recruit, Ike. It is divided into chapters with each chapter containing a series of engagements to be fought and won before continuing. The first chapter concerns the main characters allying themselves with the Princess Elincia. The second chapter concerns Greil and Ike resisting the Daein invasion while also working to ease racial tensions between the Beorc and Laguz attempting to gain them as allies. The third chapter onward is focused more on the fighting of the actual war, and it is revealed that a man known as Ashnard is provoking the fight to bring about an ancient prophecy that he hopes will enable him to conquer the entire world. Over the course of the story, the hero must choose to send his friends, including Ike, into battle and make hard life-or-death choices.Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance is a unique Nintendo GameCube game. It presents a powerful narrative combined with challenging gameplay. Like many GameCube games, it is also playable on the Nintendo Wii. It offers tactical and strategic options and challenges unlike those found in any other game. As such, it is a must-have for any serious strategy gamer looking for a game with a story every bit as impressive as its gameplay.

Tactical RPG that I'm in love with

To be honest I was unsure how much I would enjoy this game. I knew about Ike and Fire Emblem in general due to my love for smash bros. Yet now, after sinking countless hours into this game I am sure. It is absolutely wonderful. In fairness I do love RPG's and when done right I can appreciate strategy games as well. As a person who is fairly new to this type of tactical RPG I can say that it is good and fairly challenging. Let me stress, I am not a patient person and often times 1 in game battle sequence will take over an hour, but in Fire Emblem I am too busy planning ahead my next move or rooting for my character when they get a defensive kill. Overall, there is a learning curve and this game has no problem showing you who the boss is. Especially when you are about to win and one of your ...

  • Simply amazing.

Continuing the tradition of Fire Emblem, Path of Radiance is an amazing game with an interesting story. While yes many part of it are just rehashing the older games. Noble driven from home by unexpected war with the militaristic nation of the lands that is actually being driven by a darker force behind the scenes, there are a few noticeable changes. First would like Ike, while he is the player character he is not nobility. Second is the laguz, while yes there have been a few dragon people in the past they were anyways rare and either highly limited or unused for combat, in this one it is three whole races o f creatures; beast which are feline, birds and dragons, that have the ability to transform into a full animal form for a limited number of turns and gain large bonuses but can only ...

  • Nintendo should have released more for GC

There have been many, many Fire Emblems in the post Nintendo Consoles, but I wonder why they've only released one for Gamecube. This is a great game - PERIOD. I enjoyed every minute of battle and I am very glad that the class changing system finally upgraded(the previous games had to use special seals which can be acquired by bosses, enemies, or chests and can be bought at 10,000 gold); in this game, you can upgrade to the next class right after level 20. The graphics are great and the turn-based-tactics will keep you playing. The only flaws I found are still, the random growth rate, not many chapters, dumb computer AI(too easy at times), and again, the random growth rate. I repeated the random thing because after leveling up, I thought they changed it were the game could ...

  • Aged but still great.

If you want to get into Classic Fire Emblem, its worth it if you're willing to pay $125 or more. But play the GBA titles first if you're unsure. The game has cheesy voice acting but it wasn't as bad as I expected. The combat is tense and takes a bit more planning that Awakening, Fates, and a good chunk of Three Houses. I've only gotten to Chapter 7 but I'm excited to play more.
