About this product

Product Information

One of the most important political documentaries ever made, POINT OF ORDER chronicles the Army-McCarthy hearings of 1954. Radical documentarian Emile de Antonio assembled the film from over 150 hours of footage into a tightly constructed examination of political maneuvering. The hearings took place after Sen. Joseph McCarthy's investigations into communist infiltration of the military overstepped its bounds, and McCarthy began indiscriminately accusing members of the army of communist sympathies. What resulted was McCarthy's eventual censure and the end of his political career. De Antonio presents the footage without commentary or narration, allowing the film and the event's participants speak for themselves, and for McCarthy to damn himself.

  • Fascinating History as it Happened

How could this NOT be a stand-out piece? There is no narrator; only chronological news clips of McCarthy, Murrow, McClellan, Mundt and several hapless witnesses. As a child, I watched these hearings with my parents. They were/are very important in the history of our county, and I'm really glad to add this program to my collection on the hearings. I plan to watch the video again soon!

  • History always repeats itself

Donald Trump has learned much from his association with Roy Cohn. Both are dishonest, and politically corrupt.

  • Stunning...Jaw Dropping

I had seen few second clips here and there and always wanted to see more. This is what I had been looking for. Absolutely riveting. You see how McCarthy had the most powerful people in government eating out of his hand as he ruined people's careers and lives. And then you see how he slowly dug his own grave until finally, when the Army turned on him, he was humiliated and ruined. Thank goodness there were cameras in the hearings!

  • Point of Order

I had seen this when it was first released and had been looking for it for years. It was just as I remember it, well done and very enlightening.

  • Point of Order

I thought this would be a PBS-style documentary. I bought it to show to high school kids in class. It's actual footage of the trials, with no gues speakers to speak about the historical context or events.
