About this product

Product Information

Vladimir Nabokov, one of the 20th century's greatest novelists, is particularly remembered for his masterpiece Lolita . The present work examines the enduring themes of Lolita and places the novel in its biographical, social, cultural and historical contexts. Of particular interest are questions of love in all of its manifestations, the central problem of time in the book, and memory as it is explored in fictional memoir or, in this case, the central protagonist's "confession."

Dvd arrived quickly and well packaged and taken care of. The item was listed as acceptable and met all of my needs but here's a quick description of what I got: Some wear is visible on the plastic sleeve on the outside of the case. The inside leaflet was still there! The disk has about 3 very notable scratches, although none are bigger than about 2 centimeters. Little to no grime anywhere on the product. Great service!

I bought this book by mistake. I expected a discussion of the "Lolita time warp" which was not there. There is a cottage industry among academic careerists in telling us how to read Nabokov. If you ever consider buying one of these pleas for tenure, remember 3 rules: (1) those who can do, those who can't criticize, (2) art and idealogy don't mix, (3) nothing worthwhile can come out of a modern American humanities department. Nabokov himself had fun with such folk (and this was before the days of mandatory PC). Think of professional student Humbert whose nympholeptic obsession precluded a useful career and who proved too "manque" even for psychology (he changed to English Lit). Or Charles Kinbote with a story to tell but no talent to tell it, who annotatively tortures John Shade's ...
