Beautiful photos, good history, limited value as a price guide.
In the author's Introduction, Dick Sigafoose explains that this book is limited to his personal collection and was written to preserve information about American art pottery and to correct inaccuracies in the collectors' world. Sigafoose covers the most prominent American potteries including Brush-McCoy, Fulper, Niloak, Pauline, Rookwood, Roseville, Uhl, Weller and Van Briggle. Fifty-five potteries in all are represented. His historical information and photographic examples are satisfying. Sigafoose took all but one of the photos, and should be congratulated on a job well done. The sample works are beautiful and sometimes breath-taking. Unfortunately, many of the pottery marks are too small or too indistinct to serve a useful identification purpose. A significant portion of this guide ... The values given for the different pieces are on the high end and are not realistic in today's marketplace, especially with online auctions. Altogether, this serves as a good but limited historical resource on American art pottery. But it has limited value as a price guide.

Phenomenol View into America's Art Pottery
I found this to be a valuable book to add to my collection about Art Pottery. I was and am very pleased with the large section on tiles. It's very difficult to find information on these elusive beauties. As for the the pottery marks themselves, anyone who has ever tried to photograph these old marks knows how difficult, if not almost impossible this can be. These are often so light or almost non-existent it's a miracle what Mr.Sigafoose has accomplished. Some marks are often not seen without the aid of a black-light!! I also enjoy the old advertisements! They give me a feel for the old way of life in the Pottery. Sometimes I wish I could go back and visit when these lovely pieces were first being made. This book covers many Pottery companies that you don't come across too often. I enjoyed ... I found this to be a valuable book to add to my collection about Art Pottery. While visiting Colorado Springs we stopped at their storeroom and it was all dusty and beat looking. But, through the window you could see all of the beauty of Pottery sitting there, waiting....It was heartbreaking! It was like looking in this book and seeing all the beauty that used to be and now is no more, unless you look really hard and occasionally find a piece. I love this book. It gives me a look into the past where beauty was important in everyday things. American Art Pottery is just as important and beautiful as any other countries pottery.Values come and go, it's impossible to gauge the market by a books prices, in my opinion. This is a lovely book with excellent photographs you will not see anywhere else. Much information is given about each piece which is also novel and refreshing. I recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in American Pottery, Tiles and the history of American Art Pottery.

Very displeased. Not what I was expecting.
I thought this was going to be an art pottery reference book but I was mislead by the title. Over half of the book is dedicated to ceramic tiles with very little mention of pottery. The book is also filled with way to many useless factory catalog pages and old ads that are poorly printed.
