Canon Bubble Jet i80 Printer
Portability & high print quality. Ink cartridges are small & expensive. I disregard Canon's advice and buy the black cartridges from other sources. I do very little color printing and I still have a supply of genuine Canon color cartridges I found on Ebay. This printer has a 'waste ink absorber' that, based on a counter, shuts down the printer when it decides it is full and tells you to send it in for service. I found a way to reset the counter and have continued to use it with no problem. The printer I just bought that Ebay asked me to review was one of two 'as is for parts'. I was able to get the other one working with parts from this one. I now have a back-up in case the waste ink absorber really does get full on my original printer. Wonderful travel printer
This little printer is very compact, and always goes with me when I travel. It prints fast and is easy to use. It is equipped with infrared so it can be a wireless connection if your laptop has infrared also. It does a nice job on photos too. I once used it to print an entire album of pictures from our niece's wedding and they turned out remarkably well. If it remains unused for an extended length of time, the print head may plug and require cleaning or a new printhead. This is the only drawback to this great printerThis little printer is very compact, and always goes with me when I travel. It prints fast and is easy to use. Canon I80 portable printer
I am now on my third canon portable printer. I love it's compact size, the quality, and the speed. But most of all I love the portability. Printing while traveling has always been a pain. Although more and more hotels offer WiFi connections, I still found that I often wanted a hardcopy print-out of something. This printer is smaller & lighter than many laptops and 'travels well' in a slot intended for paper in my computer case. It's extremely simple to set-up (I use a USB cable rather than buying the bluetooth adapter). I originally had an I70 which gave out after about 3 years, bought an i80 which I 'loaned' to my son (which of course he kept), and bought another I80 because I was going through 'withdrawal' by not having a printer handy while traveling.I am now on my third canon portable printer. Even used, this printer is quite excellent. I have used for years the "battletank" BJC 70, 75, 80, & 85 series of Canon portable printers, those were always completely reliable. I especially loved how you could use larger black ink cartridges in them. That's one thing I wish that could be changed about the i70/i80 portable printers, to be able to use larger b/w cartridges. It's a pain to so quickly go thru these tiny things. But you can get easy and cheap replacements online. The Canon i80 is extremely quick and quiet. Normal operation is quite calm, and there's still a "quiet" mode beyond that which I never have to use. It prints quickly and easily. However, it won't take any paper wider than 8 1/2 inch, standard page size. Guess they thot if it's used traveling, you wouldn't ... Even used, this printer is quite excellent. The older BJC 70-85 series printers had a little extra width available....not much, but it's nice to have if you needed it. The controls are pretty much self-evident......gone are the days when you had to have a physics degree to understand printer controls. Basic "on/off" and "error" buttons, and when you open the inside cover, it moves the cartridge carrier to center so you can replace the ink. Not much easier than that. The Canon i80 portable printer is great for normal b/w printing. I have attempted some color picture printing on plain paper, and it's acceptible, but obviously not great. I haven't tried using regular photo paper. However, I think to print lasting photos, I'd get a permanent desktop model that's made for it. So the Canon i80 printer is smaller, sleeker, and much quieter. You only have to make sure you've got enough extra ink cartridges when you travel with it. You can get used models on ebay fairly inexpensively. If you're wanting to make sure of getting a very good one, seek ones that advertised "unopened" or unsused but you'll pay much more for the privilege of using a brand new one. There is a nasty little hidden trait with Canon printers: after so many times of 'deep cleaning' (not sure of how many, but might be few hundred), the printer will lock up completely, and tell you to seek help thru their repair service. Don't know why this happens, maybe it was some sort of planned obscelescence, so you'd eventually have to spend much more bucks to Canon. It reeks of when playing a video game with quarters, and eventually, you'll reach some giant monster, bug, or bad guy that you've got to spend a couple bucks of quarters to get by, merely to use up money. Feels like same thing with this hidden development. It's not worth having repair center "fix" the problem, much easier, quicker, and cheaper just to buy another used one. It happened to me last 2009 Xmas time, but it's only time I ever had the trouble, and mostly because I was running dozens of "deep cleanings" to try and correct a dry cartridge head. (Totally unrelated to any Canon problem.) My suggestion is try it. I have found it a very reliable portable printer. It's small enough to fit into most bags or pouches made to carry laptops and accessories. USB cables make connections super-easy. You can get working used models on Ebay for $30-80. Take your time and examine the various ads for them. Be careful whether they advertise a power cord or not with it. Sometimes...not often...you get sent a completely unrelated power cord. Don't choose cheapest, and you should do fine.
