BEACH PARTY: An anthropologist (Cummings) and his lovely assistant travel to the wilds of Southern California's beaches to study the indigenous beach population. In their attempts to study the local population and observe customs and rituals, the two discover that the beach denizens aren't nearly so "wild" as science describes them. The first of the numerous Avalon/Funicello beach movies to depict the social scene of Southern California's beaches and their seemingly constant musical departures. It should be noted that Funicello and Avalon were not from California but Philadelphia, a town not known for its sand or surf.BIKINI BEACH: Just about the last gasp of the classic 1960s beach movie, but features plenty of dancing, surfing and teen romance. Before they can play in the sun, Frankie, Annette and the gang must first deal with tough motorcycle hoods and unscrupulous land developers.

Bikini Beach
Typical Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon fare. The payoff appeals to the die-hard hot rod fan. TV Tommy Ivo was the Technical Advisor. Pic features two miked runs of his 4-engined Showboat, tires belching smoke and that wonderful noise. On of these runs was filmed on board. A "zany" chase scene shows Ivo's T-bucket and a few other 1964 style rods. Dean Jeffries' Manta Ray is used to tow a Dragster. The Greer and Prudhomme rail and others are shown in action on the drag strip. Film of these cars is rare. Don Rickles co-stars and that should be an indication of the type of humor that makes up this little time capsule. "Boss" bikinis and surf action. Very campy, obvious and lots of slapstick, but that's what the '60s F&A beach films were all about. Everything that I thought So-Cal should ... Typical Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon fare.
