  • Point Blank Worth the Watch

I saw this film at nine years of age in 1967 at the theatre and was one of the few I never forgot. I had to re-watch to see if my memories were close. As usual, they were close but not perfect. I got to meet Angie Dickinson a year and a half ago and this film starting popping up in my mind occasionally again. As per IMDB, the certification is 'Approved,' but I think it should be rated 'R' due to sexual situations and nudity. Angie Dickinson was beautiful and sexy and Lee Marvin was manly and attractive in his usual way. There's been no one to take his place since he departed. I'm not sure if the film would mean so much to me if it weren't for the childhood impression it made, but if you like these actors, you should definately find it worth the watch.

  • Almost as stupid, ugly, and nasty as Deliverance!

I like Lee Marvin, the archetypal tough guy. I also, within limits, enjoyed the book by Donald Westlake. So when I saw this piece of garbage advertised as a neo-noir classic I decided to purchase it. If you did read the book, The Hunter, you can forget about any resemblance, however slight, to this movie. They even change the main character's name from Parker to Walker for no apparent reason. The script begins rather badly with the initial premise. John Vernon, the Dean in Animal House, gets his best prison buddy Walker to go in with him on a heist. Vernon owes money to the Organization and he'll be dead if he doesn't come up with it. But he won't have enough if he gives Walker his cut so Vernon shoots Walker and leaves him for dead, not only taking his money ...

  • Get "Payback" instead.

Movie is very 60's. I got it because I liked the remake "Payback" and wanted to see the original. Lee Marvin is great. The movie itself is dated. The movie is based on the same book as "Payback" so it's storyline is very similar. After committing a robbery the protagonist is double crossed by his wife and his partner and left for dead. He recovers and relentlessly pursues his half of the robbery proceeds. But it's not about the money. It's retribution. The end has a different twist. I liked "Payback" much better. The style of "Point Blank" is very dated. It was like watching an old episode of "Starsky and Hutch" and wondering why I used to like the show so much.

  • Yesterday's gold

  • Point Blank

*SPOILERS* Lee Marvin is at his best as the lawless Walker blazing a path of revenge while keeping his humanity. As Walker presses on in the violent and gritty underworld he struggles with what he has been involved with in the outfit and as a professional thief. When he is double crossed by a friend he sets out on a cycle which involved trying to save the life of a friend he trusted most. In that sad assumption he kills almost everything which remains innocent within himself even double crossing a friend without realizing it. Although, there is speculation it was a dying man's last breath revenge drama I think it was Walker lived and set out on revenge. Without realizing it when he obtained the money he had fought for he realized he betrayed everything that he stood for.
