  • Cosmos is now dated; Hidden assumptions bug me

Carl Sagan's "Cosmos", originally released in 1989, is now well over 20-year-old material, and astronomy has moved on a long way since the eighties. Based on the television series of the same name, Cosmos' scope and focus is good, although the graphics are now unfortunately dated. Thus the series can best be recommended as a sort of historical astronomy primer: it is definitely not cutting edge. Sagan does have a captivating way of presenting the complex concepts of astronomy, and his enthusiasm is contagious. That's the best part. He got a lot of folks interested in science rather than skateboards. On the other hand, I find the heavy mixture of his religious ideas into the material annoying. • Cosmos - The Complete Collection (2002, VHS)

Carl Sagan could make any science subject interesting. The work he did with this series covering our universe is outstanding and is reflected in the number of people that watched it around the world. He had the ability to explain the most complicated scientific facts (and theories) in understandable and interesting ways.

  • My favorite series of all time.

Carl Sagan's ability to convey such complex subject matter in a manner that can make anyone feel comfortable and informed is awesome. A tremendously brilliant and gifted individual.
