    Great entry level shotgun microfone

Affordable, reliable, lightweight, easy to use and having 48v or AA batterie powering options makes that Rode mix an interesting option for entry level audio professionals or videomakers. Good sound quality, low noise and flexible to fit boompoles or direct to cameras.

  • Competes comparitvely with much higher priced shotgun mics,

As an Indie Film Maker I needed a Shot Gun Mic that was Broadcast quality, without spending thousands of dollars. YouTube has some great videos on what the Rode NTG-2 sounds like, after a ton of research I decided to spend a little more for a Rode mid-price-range Shotgun Mic as a production Investment. RODE Delivers! At just under $300 dollars Retail you have a great sounding microphone. You can record dialog, musical instruments, interviews, and is a great youtube mic(meaning you can record indoor at close range for podcasting). As an XLR mic, you need a converter cable to plug it into a HDSLR. However I recommend an external recorder, like the H4N to record all your sound separately as it really sounds better without compression. You lose some audio quality adapting to a smaller ...

  • Can't get a better mic for price

NTG-1 is the best bang for the buck on the market. It's the first tier of pro quality boom microphones. You cannot really get a legit mic that's not for camcorders until you go over $200 and there you are-- Rode NTG1 and there's really no competition. The sound quality is excellent, it's good enough for TV or a film, a live music performance.

  • Great Mic! Low output though

The AA battery this mic takes provides enough power to the output for a DSLR input, but not enough for a field recorder. The field recorder used with this otherwise would need phantom power and good pre amps connected through XLR connection only (not trs). It's said that the zoom H4n is not a good pairing with this mic. If building a field setup, I'd suggest pairing the NTG2 with a fostex fr2 or a tascam 60d mkii. This being said, it is great value and a solid microphone otherwise.

  • great mic, horrible windscreen

you really can't go wrong w/ the rode ntg-2 for professional audio field recordings, but do yourself a favor and buy the fluffy rode muff designed for the mic and toss that foam POS out w/ this week's trash
