        A new air pump repair kit and fresh fuel and this lantern was back in action.

        These used model 288 lanterns all seem to need the same replacement part. A new air pump repair kit. This kit costs about $12.00 to $15.00 and postage if purchased by mail. This lantern did come with some replacement mantles. They cost about $4.00 to $6.00 a bag. After replacing the pump kit, refilling the tank with fresh fuel, and installing the mantles this lantern worked ok. Do check one thing on used Coleman lanterns, I have seen problems when spiders get into the air mixer tube (the vertical pipe that supports the top and bottom of the lantern) and build a white fuzzy nest that blocks the air flow.
