Product Information

Australian Peter Weir's first Hollywood film tells the story of John Book (Harrison Ford), a Philadelphia cop whose life is altered while trying to help Rachel (Kelly McGillis), an Amish woman, and her son Samuel (Lukas Haas), who witnesses a murder in a Philadelphia train station bathroom. After discovering that the murder was committed by a member of his force, Book travels to Lancaster County with Rachel and Samuel and poses as a member of the Amish community to hide from his murderous police peers. While there, love blooms between Rachel and Book, and he finds himself drawn in by the honesty and simplicity of the old-world Amish lifestyle. Fine performances and beautiful cinematography are prevalent throughout.

    Fascinating movie.

    Harrison Ford is compelling in his performance. You can feel the heat between him and Rachael. Cant believe he would not choose Rachael and her son Samuel over the Philadelphia Police Dept. Hollywood has produced another less than happy ending. Good setting, interesting plot, great performances.

A young Amish boy (Lukas Haas) is witness to a murder in a train station where he and his mother (Kelly McGillis) have been travelling to visit her sister. It's a rare trip for them outside their puritanical Amish roots and only confirms their fear of a seemingly-violent outside world. Ford's aggressive and coarse manner does not go down well with the sensitive McGillis who is trying to protect her son. He seems equally unpopular with his colleagues and the further he delves into the case, the clearer it becomes that he's in personal danger. This development ...

    Intense

    This movie is so intense. Harrison Ford helps out a witness to a murder. She is an amish woman who has a different life than he can ever know. The hardships of romance seem simple as that but the movie is so complex and the suspense is so strong--it makes you sit on the edge of your seat. It is shocking but not too violent for today's standards. The danger is tense and the movie is great!
