Notes
Hailing from Louisville, Kentucky, this band came to the attention of Outpost Recordings' Scott Litt through a "battle of the bands" contest. Litt (producer for R.E.M. and Nirvana's MTV Unplugged in New York) signed Days of the New and produced their self-titled debut album. The group rocks audiences acoustically through dark, intense and deeply introspective songs written by vocalist/guitarist Travis Meeks.

  • i am the ground.. and the dirt.. walk on me...

i picked this album up on tape the summer of '99 in the midst of a crazy ear infection but this album made it alllllll better first ill get this out of the way: travis meeks is a f*^$ing GENIUS. this is their first album, released in 97 or 98 i believe. the whole feel of the album is very earthy, due to the exclusive use of acoustic guitars. its a lot harder to play acoustic guitars; theres a lot less to rely upon. it all combines together in such an even way.. no instrument drowns out or overshadows another. the music is very mellow in some parts, other parts it can even be a bit creepy, but throughout it flows with the force of a river. a dynamite rhythm section in bassist jesse vest & drummer matt taul, a scorching lead guitarist in todd whitener, and what can only be described as a ...

  • Meeks IS a genius!~

One of the best cd's you could ever own! Travis Meeks began this DOTN journey at 17 years old, had a network TV debut on David Letterman playing Touch, Peel and Stand with the band... Later he went on to make two more albums under the Days of the New name without the band and played nearly every instrument you hear. The "Yellow" album was post grunge and in an era when metal was lacking, but this album being testosterone driven, shows just how musically gifted Meeks is combining the raw/natural beauty of an acoustic set, tribal style beats, Meeks' naturally smooth yet gritty voice... all make turn this one album into a whimsical spirit in itself. Look for the Green, Red and soon to come Purple albums, under the new name Days of the New presents Tree Colors. Enjoy this masterpiece!

  • A great album!

Nothing DOTN has done is bad or poorly done on any level!! A shame Travis has so many issues holding him and the band back.

  • Not overly mainstream band is one of the best

I great up when the "Seattle sound" of Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice in Chains was exploding onto the scenes. Travis Meeks, Days of the New, is right out of the mold on Lane Staley. Great acoustic sounds with intense vocals makes the album, which bears their name, easy to listen to.
