    If having prior viewed "Anne of a Thousand Days" with Sir Richard Burton as Henry VIII, it would be the best set-up for viewing Cate Blanchett's outstanding portrayal of Queen Elizabeth 1 (1533-1603). I'll briefly summarize what's in my review of "Anne..." so that this review of "Elizabeth" makes more sense. The Anne in question is, of course, Anne Boleyn--a young woman who became the 2nd wife of Henry VIII, which was the cause of considerable political & religious controversy. Seems King Henry was discontent with his 1st wife & daughter because he wanted a son to heir his throne. Smitten by the teenager, Anne, he fiercely persued her until she fell in love with him. Trouble was, the Catholicized United Kingdom experienced political religious controversies over Prostestantism. Thus, ...
