Wonderful Product
This LG Portable AC unit is great! It was shipped and we received it in four days. It is refurbished by the mfg but it looks brand new, even the mfg box looked brand new. We bought this in August when we were in the midst of a three week heat wave of upper 90s temperatures here in California. We were also experiencing high humidity levels which made a 94 degree day feel like 98 degrees - it was terrible, even at night as our low temps were in the mid-70s. We out this LG AC unit in our bedroom and we both love it! It keeps our room cool, the AC runs very cold which is wonderful. This also has a dehumidifier and a only fan option - we use just the fan the majority of the time, and haven't used the dehumidifier at all. This AC unit also recirculates the water that it creates for self-cooling, ... This LG Portable AC unit is great! It was shipped and we received it in four days. If enough water should accumulate, the unit will not run and a code will come up that means you need to empty the water before AC can be used. The window kit works very well in our hugh , bedroom window - it is 48" tall and the kit fits easily - my husband had the kit installed in just minutes. At night I can still slide our bedroom window open and let in cool nighttime air and shut it in the morning when it starts warming up. Lastly, it has a remote control and that is what we use most of the time when the unit is on. I highly recommend this LG Portable AC 8000 BTU unit, it works great in a small space like our bedroom and when it is miserably hot here, keeps it cool enough to sleep comfortably.

Decent AC
Pros: Installation was easy and pretty straightforward. Cons: I have placed this ac in my 150 sq feet bedroom and it doesn't cool the room enough. I need a fan to circulate the air evenly. The remote is difficult to work with. It has to be facing exactly the front of the ac. Also the values on the remote and the ac go out of sync. There is also a minor leak of hot air near the exhaust and the vent hose. I had to tape it to fix the leak. It looks like a manufacturing defect because i googled several options. Nice machine, smaller and quieter than expected.
Quieter than expected. Appears to have same energy consumption rating as smaller 5000 btu models but provides 8000 btu. Smaller than expected (I plan to store ours behind a wing chair in the corner when not in use). Rolls well on solid surfaces with non-scratching wheels. These models do need to be drained by removing drain plugs and tipping unit slightly but the water is minimal after a full days use on a fairly hot and humid day. The draining process may require disconnecting the exhaust hose from the window or from the unit which is fairly easy.Quieter than expected. Know the principles of operation first...
It does produce cooler air, in both modes... AC and dehumidification. The amount of hot air that is expelled out the window vent system needs to sucked back into the area where the unit is, normally that means you are pulling in outside air (which is also hot and has higher humidity - otherwise why run the unit if it is not hot or humid???). So the unit cools and dehumidifies some air, then expels some hot air through the vent system, and as that air leaves... new air is sucked in, and that new air is not conditioned and from the outside. So you are at best exchanging air, sending out hot air to the outside, and bringing in hot humid air from outside, so... what is being accomplished? You can spot cool you or anything the air blows on... you can lower the humidity inside to match that of ... It does produce cooler air, in both modes... AC and dehumidification. Later, you go upstairs to get ready for bed and find it is hotter and stickier than ever up there... turns out the make up air is coming in from the upstairs bathroom vent straight out of the very hot attic... now you know how this system works, if you send air outside, then outside air must come back in to take it's place... they only question becomes where is that outside air leaking back into the house, if it is from the attic you are bringing even hotter air than you are expelling through the vent system. Just want you to make sure you know how this system works...
