The story of R-Type Delta throws players into the year 2163, a time of utter chaos. After suffering massive damage, the Bydo Empire has resurfaced with new plans to destroy Earth. By using the destructive newly infected Mortiz-G as a doomsday weapon, the evil empire is threatening to destroy all of the planet's major cities and eventually the human race. Naturally, it is up to you to save the planet by commandeering one of three different R-Type warships! The R9a Delta features a devastating energy dispersing wave cannon with a special nuclear fusion weapon and a quad-force (force powers are explained in the next paragraph). Developed by McGwire Co. Ltd., the Rx features an arsenal of wave cannons, a time disruption corridor, a chain reaction missile, and a tentacle force. Finally, the R13 uses a lighting cannon with a dimensional rift, photon missile, and a claw-shaped anchor force. Force power-ups can be found within the seven different levels of R-Type Delta. Coming in three different colors (yellow, red, blue), the force powers can be attached on the front of a ship or on the back. Not only can they absorb enemy fire, they are indestructible; and by collecting more force pickups of the same color, the attack will be much more devastating. All seven levels are played from a 3D side-scrolling perspective (much like Squaresoft's Einhander). The call of duty will have players battling Mecha-Bydo enemies throughout demolished city streets, a run-down energy reactor, Earth's space fortresses, and a ripple in time through another dimension. This journey isn't a cakewalk, however, as there are countless enemies waiting to destroy your tiny vessel! Best described as organic robot machines, the enemies come from all quadrants of the playing screen. Not only will players have to deal with the Mortiz-G, but they'll have to destroy the crippling Contrite, the reproductive Eve models, a dimension dwelling organism known only as Cyst, and U-Launch Missile Pods. Item arrived in good packaging and in good time. It was fairly obvious it was pre-owned due to the figure having dust coated on it even inside the plastic but it was fairly easy to clean and wipe off with no immediate damage to the main figure itself. No items seem to be missing, however the stand-to-figure connector had been heavily damaged from past ware and had cracked. I am able to buy a replacement foe that part so thankfully it isn't too much of an issue. Glory to Madoka!

One of the best in the R-Type series - a must play shmup!
I was lucky enough to find an affordable copy of R-Type Delta online, which is not an easy task these days. After all these years of being an R-Type fan, I finally got to play this one and it was quite a treat! While I thought R-Type Final (while good), suffered from slow paced, boring stage design, R-Type Delta has none of those issues. Here you have 7 well imagined stages, full of all the R-Type difficulty and Bydo madness you have come to expect from this franchise. As others have mentioned, you start with three selectable ships that come armed with their own individual force pod. Each one has very different characteristics between the three pod power-up modes (blue, yellow, red) and one may fit your style more than another! While you cannot switch ships mid game, you can give go at it with one ship and then select another on a different play through before you blast off. These reminded me a bit of R-Type III: Third Lightning, but while that game allowed three different pods, Delta actually made them individual ships. It was particularly great to see some of the old Bydo back at it again in 3D. The Dobkeratops, the Gomander Cyst and the classic stage 3 battleship all make a return appearance and they are a welcome treat. I felt the pace of the game was intense, with a lot of action and next to no slowdown. My only two small complaints with this game are the length of it and the graphics. Graphics are secondary to me, but the polygons definitely struggle from a low resolution on the Playstation. The environment tends to be rather dark in Delta, so it hides some of the lower resolution polys and they don't stand out as much though. I have seen other PS shooters with more graphical polish but trust me, its far from a game breaker. The game features only 7 stages, which seem to go by fairly quickly, unless you succumb to the challenge and spend hours on end stuck on a particular stage ;) My overall synopsis of this shooter is the following: Pros 1) Imaginative and creative stage design 2) Great triple ship and power-up options, including the new "Delta" weapon 3) Some familiar faces from classic R-Type titles 4) An incredible challenge w/different difficulty modes 5) Pilot stats and unlockable gallery/ending sequence video bonuses Cons 1) Fairly short 2) Somewhat muddled and low resolution polygons All things considered, this is a top notch R-Type entry worthy of being in the top three games of the entire series. For the small shortcomings, I would only knock off half of a star. Since that's not an option, this entry deserves the nod to 5 star. If you can find an affordable copy and haven't played it yet, definitely check it out!

Simply the best shoot-em-up game on Playstation 1!
This is by far the best shoot-em-up game on Playstation 1, and one of the best shoot-em-up games of all time! In this game, incredible 3D graphics and other improvements beef up the gameplay that manages to stay very true to the spirit of the R-type series. Running at silky smooth 60 fps, with huge explosions and vibration support, this left-to-right side-scrolling shoot-em-up game delivers traditional R-Type gameplay. Depth is added by virtue of unlockable content such as extra ships, each with different extra weapons. Luckily the traditional R-Type 1 style ship that we all love from the old-school arcade machine is included amongst the selection. New to the series is a smart bomb, blasting everything in sight, and a speed select button, allowing you to adjust the speed of your ship in ... This is by far the best shoot-em-up game on Playstation 1, and one of the best shoot-em-up games of all time! I would say difficulty is on par with R-Type 1, at least on the default difficulty setting. And more: awesome under-water sequences, the occasional destructible background object, detailed particle and transparency effects, etc. etc... Bottom-line: A must buy Playstation 1 game, worth even the high-selling prices of $20-$30 used, in my opinion!

Like all of the recent series updates, R-Type Delta spares no expense in the aesthetics department. The traditionally 2D series has been completely made over in beautiful 3D, sporting the kind of graphical polish one would expect from Square. Each of the game's levels is interestingly detailed and never feels repetitive like many of Einhander's staid levels did. In addition to myriad little graphical touches, R-Type Delta uses tons of effects and transparency to give the game an excellent sci-fi look and feel.Like all of the recent series updates, R-Type Delta spares no expense in the aesthetics department. The traditionally 2D series has been completely made over in beautiful 3D, sporting the kind of graphical polish one would expect from Square. Each of the game's levels is interestingly detailed and never feels repetitive like many of Einhander's staid levels did. In addition to myriad little graphical touches, R-Type Delta uses tons of effects and transparency to give the game an excellent sci-fi look and feel.

Best. R-Type. Ever.
This R-Type title is worth getting disk alone. It is a fantastic shooter, and pretty much the best R-Type in the series next to R-Type Final. It just has great gameplay, fantastic stages, big bosses, and great graphics for the PS1, an awesome soundtrack, and just an overall tremendous PS1 game. It is a must for any PS1 collection, or any shooter fan, or any R-Type fan. If you've played Einhander for the PS1, then you will love this title as well. It is well worth paying $50.00 for the disk alone, you will get your moneys worth here folks.This R-Type title is worth getting disk alone.
