About this product

Product Information

Extend your analytical skills to moral deliberation with this best-selling engineering ethics text. ENGINEERING ETHICS: CONCEPTS AND CASES, 4E bridges the gap between theory and practice with more than 100 current case studies available in the text and on the companion website, including current and controversial topics, such as Hurricane Katrina and global warming. This edition introduces you to a proven, structured methodology for analyzing cases, as well as examples of cases that already have been analyzed, to ensure you can practice ethical engineering yourself. The text also discusses Engineering Codes of Ethics. You'll learn the importance of critical moral reasoning as the book demonstrates how many apparent moral disagreements are actually disagreements about the facts or the definitions of crucial terms. Significant topics, such as the ethical theory and the consequences of whistle-blowing, are now covered in greater depth. A handy, alphabetized list of cases allows you to quickly find specific cases, while a convenient bibliography provides sources for completing papers or additional reading. With this edition's comprehensive coverage, you quickly see, first-hand, the importance of your conduct as a professional and how your actions can affect the health, safety, and welfare of the public.

  • Ethics for Engineers in training and college students

This book has been expertly written by the three authors who have taken due care and put in the effort to make the reading as useful for the engineer-in-training or college engineering students as possible. The chapters are presented in an organized manner that corresponds to the teachings in engineering ethics. It also makes it easier on the professor/teacher of the class to explain it to the class populace with ease. The cases correspond to the matter that is in the chapters. The cases are a direct application of the matter learned in the class. Overall, the rating of the book is Good. And it is a must-read for everyone with questions reading the ethics of the practice of engineering profession.

  • Tries hard to be an irrelevant axiomatic system.

I had to buy this book. An applied philosophy course required it. Simply, put this book is poorly organized patchwork of fancy sounding clichés. There is scarcely a trace of any ethical foundation, almost absent are the founding works of our ethical thinking. With the exception of utilitarianism, Kant (despite the books bleating references to deontology), Hegel, Marx, Kierkegaard, Aquinas, and even the man who nearly coined the term ethics (Aristotle) go unmentioned. So how can you build something without a foundation? Simple, use many buzzwords; eventually you will let your guard down. Of course, they don’t have any slight trace of meaning because there is no foundation to the ethical text. So where does their perceived meaning come from? The whims of the authors! Its Roland’s Barthes’s ...

  • Engineering Ethics

It's full of good examples, although a lot of it is common sense put into terms. It really helps you think about ethical issues and all the logistics surrounding it.

  • Very good book for engineering ethics.

Buy the international version instead! It costs less and with the same exact materials and contents.
