About this product

Product Information

British director John Schlesinger (MIDNIGHT COWBOY), reteams with Dustin Hoffman for MARATHON MAN, a classic suspense thriller (based on the novel by William Goldman) rife with chase sequences, torture, and political intrigue. A landmark film that pushes the boundaries of audience squeamishness, MARATHON MAN features a powerful performance by Hoffman alongside equally stellar work by Sir Laurence Olivier and Roy Scheider. As a Columbia University graduate student, Babe Levy (Dustin Hoffman), spends his spare time running in marathons. However, he winds up running for his life when he inadvertently becomes entangled in an espionage plot. Babe's brother Doc (Scheider) is an American secret agent whom is killed by fierce Nazi fugitive, Szell (Olivier), who believes he stole a cache of diamonds, and Babe himself is kidnapped by the murderer. Excruciating scenes of dental torture follow, as Babe repeatedly risks his life trying to escape his captors.

  • 'Lens Version;. . .'

'The lensed version of the story. Prose has been re-formatted for cinematography. Great acting, directing and photography; but be mindful that you'll be patronizing another mega-capitalist enterprise,. . namely Paramount. And that very fact seems to dull some of the effort on the part of the talent. Ironic, though that the story line has to do with avoiding the mind-control of a regime. So was Paramount possibly doing some skull-duggery for their selves? The pretense used seems quite transparent; as they obviously wanted to make yet another shekel with this film about a somewhat vintage subject that could be, during some moments, somewhat contrite. Sheer technological slickness and seamless adrenalin puts the movie's category nearer to action-adventure, so the political background tends ...

Yes it's 1975, yes it's cool. A great movie in 'ole NYC. Classic action crime drama. WATCH IT. A movie that makes the grade in 2011 as still a great watch and bonafide entertainment. Dustin is caught between the a variety of thieves, including his own brother over Nazi diamonds. Dus is just trying to live his life when the crap comes down on him. After the really bad guys kill his not so nice brother... he steps out of his realm and takes 'em on. And of course there is the king of JAWS Roy Schneider to boot. What a slick cut of beef cake he was. A good movie stands the test of time. And this one surely does. Watch it. Blessings and all my best for your viewing enjoyment, or lack there of... I was surprises (in a good way) that this was not only an Original VHS Print; but I can see it is a custom Cut-Box edition. I wonder if this was a rental VHS because of the Be Kind Rewind sticker (the most adorable smiley sticker I've ever seen! :3) and just how cool the Custom Cut-Box versions are to have. Just as good as having the exact original release. Thank You! :D I can't wait to watch this movie again.
