Just great for the young and old at heart.

Even though the Boxcar children are for young readers I would recommend these books to the older generation because they are easy reading for an evening and easy on the eyes. Good content in all the books of this series were great.

  • Remember this great classic? Kids still love it!

This book is a great read. It's a challenge for newer readers in second and third grade, and kids up to around fifth grade love it, too. The book's plot is about a group of four kids living on their own to avoid adoption by the grandfather they fear. Kids most enjoy the idea of the brothers and sisters living on their own as they live in a boxcar, find dishes in a dump, and build a dam. The kids discover an ingenious way to keep food cold, and the older boy finds work to support the family. When one of the children gets sick, the others find help. In a plot twist, the grandfather they feared turns out to be a loveable character. A good story with a happy ending, and it's one that kids have loved for decades. A great read!

  • The Boxcar Children

This book, read to us in 1940 by our 3rd grade teacher, is the book that has influenced me more than anything else. The broken cups the children used impressed me. I make do. I buy all my clothes at thrift shops, and I make with material or wood most of the stuff I have. I like to have ALMOST enough material when I make something. It makes you think. I also love e-Bay for these reasons. I have gotten everything I secretly wanted from e-Bay, like jacks that I couldn't afford when I was little.
