About this product

Product Information

A journey through the otherworldly science behind Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated film, Interstellar , from executive producer and theoretical physicist Kip Thorne. Interstellar , from acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan, takes us on a fantastic voyage far beyond our solar system. Yet in The Science of Interstellar , Kip Thorne, the physicist who assisted Nolan on the scientific aspects of Interstellar , shows us that the movie's jaw-dropping events and stunning, never-before-attempted visuals are grounded in real science. Thorne shares his experiences working as the science adviser on the film and then moves on to the science itself. In chapters on wormholes, black holes, interstellar travel, and much more, Thorne's scientific insights--many of them triggered during the actual scripting and shooting of Interstellar --describe the physical laws that govern our universe and the truly astounding phenomena that those laws make possible.

  • All the science from the prime scientific consultant to Christopher Nolan

It's science as developed by Dr. Thorne (who was consulted heavily for this film) but explained in English for non-techies and sci-fi geeks as well as hard-science afficionados. It took me a couple of weeks to read through this after seeing the movie, but it was worth it as watching the movie a 2nd time helped clarify a lot of the finer points and made it easier for me to enjoy the adventure of the film. Also pretty much covers the major theories and speculations from the scientific community as to what black holes and wormholes are, all pretty controversial stuff as of this writing. I think it a worthwhile addition to anyone's library and there are a lot of very good-condition copies here on eBay that makes it worth shopping on.

  • For curiosity seekers

Very nice intro to BH's without much of the tool of maths. This fine book will surely kick start interested people into more focused mathamatical proofs of these Hawking haired, hairless cosmic vacuum sweepers. AGS

  • College Freshman, Kept My Interest!

I'm a college freshman and for me, this is a really interesting read. Thorne really uses good here-on-Earth examples to help the reader visualize what exactly he's trying to explain. I also like how he labels what parts in the book are concrete science, and which are more speculation. I will say that its a bit advanced for the leisure reader but you also don't need to be any kind of scientist or physicist to make it through the book. Also, I would recommend watching the movie beforehand.

  • Such book! Very wow!

This book no more fit to call train than God's sake. That's all I hope!
