About this product

Product Information

First invented in Paris in the early 1700s, Limoges boxes were immensely popular that century. The small, hand-painted porcelain containers were used by all types of people - secret lovers, bawdy noblemen, even political dissidents - to express their innermost feelings. The popularity of the boxes waned around 1800 when they virtually disappeared after the French Revolution; however, they have experienced numerous resurgences of interest throughout the subsequent centuries. enthusiasts alike, shedding light on the trials and tribulations, competitions and failures of the early manufacturers. Nancy du Tertre's detailed account also draws parallels between the early manufacturers and their modern-day counterparts, including tales of industrial espionage, design theft and the competing foreign porcelain markets in Germany, England, China and Japan.

Accurate item description and pics. Great packing job with great care and emphasis on ensuring the item arrived undamaged using minimum packing materials and with conscientious use of recycled materials. Super-fast shipment at reasonable rate and arriving ahead of schedule. Great communication before and after transaction. Highly recommended A+ / 5 Star seller! Definitely one of my new favorite sellers and will purchase from again. Can't say enough praise for this seller. Highly Recommended!!!!!

This sellers "two day" shipping policy is baloney - it took a over five days and repeated emails before this item shipped. I almost thought I would have to request a refund from eBay. That being said, when it did ship, it was nicely packaged and arrived undamaged. I would not buy from this person again because they don't honor their own policies! I can only leave positive feedback because 1) the item DID arrive, and 2) it was as described. The rest wasn't a great experience.

I dislike complaining, but I'm unhappy with this transaction. The deck/book set, described as "like new," was mailed in such a flimsy envelope that it arrived twisted out of shape, to the point where one of the cards was stuck to exposed glue inside. I wrote to the seller about the situation but received no response. I didn't ask for a return because the price wasn't high, but even at this price I expect more care in packaging. (I have ordered other items from this seller that arrived intact.)

  • I love the book

I love the book I am still looking at it.It is very informative. I am already referring to it to review my boxes. I would say if you are a collector you will enjoy and learn alot from this book. It does not have it all but no one book out there does.

  • The Art of the Limoges Box by Nancy Du Tertre

Very good book regarding the history of limoge boxes and insight into the art of collecting them. Would recommend this for any collector of porcelain containers.
