What happened next was pretty typical-a stint in the Navy, college in Mississippi, very early marriage, young fatherhood, alcoholism, infidelities, broken hearts. But in Nordan's hands, the typical turns into the transcendent and, at the heart of things, there is always the irrepressible laughter.     If you're from the south or want to know what it's about Lewis Nordan is for you.

    I've come to Lewis Nordan late in life. He is a southern literary genius. Not for patsies or for stuffed shirts. Nordan grabs life by the nuts and shakes it, then pats it on the butt and kisses it goodbye. Funny, Funny, beyond funny.
