    A very good factory instrument.

    The 60 or 61 series bass is a good factory instrument. I bought it to replace my Küng superio bass, but after playing it I have decided to sell the Yamaha. It plays well, but the high register tends to be a bit shrill. I had a Yamaha bass many years ago and remembered it to be very agile. I just determined that I like the sound of the Küng better.

    Yamaha YRB-61

    The Yamaha YRB-61 is an affordable version of the bass (or basset) recorder for those who want to upgrade from plastic and cannot afford the high end instruments. The maple wood produces a beautiful, rich tone and it's nice to have the option of using the bocal or blowing directly into the instrument. Direct blowing provides a greater connection with the instrument than the bocal, however the reach for the right arm may be difficult for some. Each person will have to get to know the instrument and it's fingerings for response and intonation issues, which are of course, not perfect. My only other reservation with the YRB-61 is that the quality of he keys is less than what I'm used to seeing with Yamaha instruments. The keys are lightweight and tarnish easily.     THE Bass

    I've owned several Bass Recorders in the past, including another wood Yamaha. I have small hands and it is easy to get hold of an instrument that has too big a stretch for me. This Bass fits my hands the best of others I've handled. It has a rich tone down to the low G. The low F is still a bit iffy, but I'm confident it will come with more confidence in my playing of the instrument. I am looking forward to playing this Bass for years to come! And the price of this particular instrument is well worth it.
