About this product

Product Information

In Fritz Lang's WOMAN IN THE WINDOW, a tense psychological melodrama, a meek college professor, Wanley (Edward G. Robinson), gets mixed up in murder and blackmail. In a discussion with some male colleagues at his club, Wanley expresses his attraction to a painting of a beautiful woman and ponders the possibility of having a love adventure later in life. A little while later, Wanley is shocked to encounter the painting's model, Alice Reed (Joan Bennet), standing right next to him on the street. She invites him to her apartment to look at a few other pieces of art, but while he's there, an angry man storms into the apartment. The man accuses Alice of cheating on him and tries to attack the professor, and Wanley kills the man in self-defense. The police soon discover the murder and Wanly begins living in fear of being caught. In time, the accidental killing gives rise to blackmail, deception, and more murder, spinning THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW into a tragic and claustrophobic meditation on fate, crime, and punishment. Dazzlingly orchestrated, the film shows Lang's masterful direction and evocative cinematography and editing.

The item came exactly as described and pictured in brand new perfect condition! The bonus comic was in excellent shape as well. Unfortunately the digital code did not work but it was 50/50 either way. It was shipped fast and carefully and came in a quickly and timely manner. The overall price and shipping cost was not bad at all, fairly negotiated and presented. Excellent seller 10/10 would buy from again.

  • Find another Edward G. Robertson Today? Nada

One of the most under-rated films of memory, although it was reviewed favoribly by the critics at the time. Like Spencer Tracy, and others Edward g. Robinson was one of Hollywoods' greatest. One brings to mind, the great movie ,Key largo, along side Bogart. Film noir, here but for once one not so dark, both in scope and in it's ending which is also a "twist". It's a great story complete with an older man getting in a mix with the proverbial dame during a course a course of a nightly nightmare beyond scope and measure. In other words he gets in hot water fast, and the dame needs his help to get rid of the body. Then the fun begins untill it's ending with becomes an ending within an ending. I saw it for the 2nd time recently, and have now ordered it as a keeper,it is that good.

  • A FINE AND UNDERRATED FILM NOIR FROM THE FORTIES

Fritz Lang's THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW, though hardly propelled by a credible plot, is nonetheless a completely professional, technically proficient film noir with engaging acting, particularly by Edward G. Robinson as the feckless professor of psychology and Raymond Massey as a dogged public prosecutor. Despite a lack of special features, the dvd release of the film offers an eminently watchable entertainment highly recommended for anyone seeking an unusual approach to film noir plotting.

  • An Older Man's Fantasy And Nightmare

This is a very entertaining, classic movie. It concerns the fantasies of older, married men. In this film one of those fantasies spins completely out of control and turns into a nightmare. The object of all that is a painting of a beautiful, young woman in the window of a storefront. Edward G. Robinson becomes enchanted in more ways than one and the adventure begins. This one is definitely worth adding to a great film library.

  • A classic noir movie

Edward G Robinson gets mixed up with a shady lady and it leads to murder and a cover-up. Suspenseful and satisfying.
