L'autore si domanda se i principi dell'anabasi plotiniana sono presenti nella predicazione dei Salmi di Agostino e si interroga su cio che possiamo dedurre circa il rapporto tra Agostino e il neoplatonismo, a partire dalle Enarrationes. Lo studio mostra anche quali aspetti del progresso spirituale, secondo Agostino, potrebbero essere validi per i nostri tempi. Agustin de Hipona denomina al conjunto de los Salmos 119-133, salmos ascensionales, pues son expresion de la voz humana que se dirige a Dios con la intencion de alcanzarlo. Estos salmos, atravesados por un dinamismo de anabasis, son verdaderos cantica graduum. En el presente estudio, el autor se pregunta si los principios de la anabasis plotiniana estan presentes en la predicacion de los Salmos del Obispo de Hipona y que podemos deducir de la relacion entre Agustin y el neoplatonismo, a partir de las Enarrationes in Psalmos. A estas dos preguntas de fondo, se agrega una tercera que expresa, se podria decir, un deseo de actualizacion: Cuales aspectos del progreso espiritual, segun Agustin, podrian resultar validos para nuestros dias? El autor trata de responder a estas tres preguntas, por medio de un analisis puntual de las fuentes plotinianas, especialmente de la Eneada I, 6, y de las agustinianas, sobre todo de las Enarraciones sobre los salmos graduales. De esta manera, la obra esta estructurada fundamentalmente con los motivos que aparecen en dichos salmos: el camino espiritual que va desde el pais de la esclavitud a la libertad de la nueva Jerusalen. La investigacion intenta recuperar la totalidad del testimonio de las Enarrationes referente a la anabasis segun la Escritura y precisar su relacion con aquella filosofica.
