About this product

Product Information

Imagine tales so terrible that as many as 50 million innocents have been ruined by them - tales so indelibly horrid that the New York Times Bestseller List has been unable to rid itself of it for seven years. Now imagine this scourge suddenly became available in a shameful new edition so sensational, so irresistible, so riddled with lurid new pictures that even a common urchin would wish for it. Who among us would be safe Lock your doors and hide your little ones, for this is no mere fancy. The reviled Lemony Snicket's first two tales of the Baudelaire orphans are reborn ... in an even more flammable format.

Considering that this seems to be a private seller, not a professional or store operating via eBay, it's a bit surprising my item (game CD-ROM) arrived EXACTLY on the predicted delivery date (emptied my mail yesterday). Considering this is a CD jewel case I would have preferred a bubble mailer to protect it, but it arrived in perfect condition. Perhaps better than the promised "Good". He used a large envelope, unfolded-letter-paper-size, folded over the CD case, worked well, did the job.

  • Fantastic Series

What another great Lemony Snicket book! The Baudelaire orphans have found a loving home with Dr. Montgomery Montgomery and his collection of snakes. They can picture their lives full of adventures and coconut cakes until, of course, a series of unfortunate events rips that happy future away from them. I love the author's explanations of words for those readers who may not understand the vocabulary. And one of the most charming qualities of this book is that it contains one whole page containing only the word "ever" dozens of times. He is telling the readers to never, ever, ever, ever...ever, ever, ever, NEVER play with electricity. This book makes a great series for children who are slightly too young to appreciate Harry Potter.

  • Meant for kids only...adults just don't "get it".

I found the first 3 Lemony Snicket series books at a flea market and brought them home for my 2 sons to read (ages 8 and 13). Mind you, my oldest child is not an avid reader while my youngest reads books voraciously. They both loved the stories (even my "picky" reader). That speaks volumes to me! Snicket has tapped into what kids like. Although, I can see how adults find the stories repetitive and depressing...kids (especially boys) only see the drama and the crazy adventures that the Baudelaire orphans go through. To them, it is not unlike riding a roller coaster without leaving your couch. ***3 stars

  • Satire is always brilliant

Good satire is nearly impossible to find these days, unless you are willing to read old school authors like Mark Twain or Alexander Pope. As good as these gentlemen may be, they are no longer contemporary, and that's where Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket) steps in. While this series of books may be aimed at children, it contains enough modern and literary satire that an adult would probably enjoy it more than a child. In fact, the generally gloomy and gothic feel of the book probably is unhealthy for a child without parental supervision, but is still hilarious and interesting. Each book is short and contains a repeating formula. However, unlike the formulas in Days of Our Lives or Friends, Handler uses the formula to his advantage and mocks the formula format and uses the differences ...

  • The Reptile Room is 'Adorable Doom'

There's room for warmth and humor in this installation of the series, and it's filled to capacity as you read each line. Just when you think life can't get any worse for the Baudelaire orphans, it does. And just when you think life can't get any better for them, it does. Rich with detail and entertainment, I believe any reader will find something enjoyable in each of book. I'm enjoying this series thoroughly. I recommend it to anyone of any age. :-D
