This series looks at what happens to specific animals when human populations threaten them. The giant pandas in China are losing their habitat, the bamboo forest, and as a result their continued survival in the wild is threatened. What makes this book unique is the level of information that it provides. While it starts out with the basic information you would find in other books, it goes into more detail about the panda's habitat and uses vocabulary not found in the other types of books about pandas. While early in the book the focus is on the problems that pandas face, it goes on to discuss how people can help to protect the panda and its future. All of this is done with good graphics, informative inserts, and content that is appropriate for the intended audience. There are many reasons to have this book as part of a classroom library. If teachers have habitats and ecosystems as part of their science curricula, this book could provide interesting examples. If the curriculum includes humans' impact on the environment--both in negative and positive ways--this book would be a good addition to a classroom library. The book offers additional resources and websites for students to use, so along with the information in the book and the additional resources, this book would be valuable in a classroom for research projects. I understand that the book I purchased was on $8 and change and was listed as acceptable but when you ask for the book to be padded securely so it does not get damaged during shipping and they just throw it in a loose poly bag that's just not right. My book arrived at my door ripped and mashed. When I messaged the seller I get I'm so sorry can we offer you a partial refund? A partial refund on a book that's now garbage? No thank you. Seller did nothing else to try and make it right.
