Product is a good start for modification into a realistic model of early TOFC equipment
Atlas is a quality model railroad equipment manufacturer, and while this product is not one of their better efforts, it does present a good start for modification into a better representation of early TOFC equipment from the 1950s. To make it a better model, you will need to add trailer hitches for the trailers to be attached to, guideways along the sides of the bed to keep the trailers' wheels on the car when loading circus style, and folding ramps on the ends to allow loading and unloading from car to car. The Bachmann 52' 6" TOFC flat car is a good model to use as a guide for making your modifications. The trailers on the Atlas flat car are good models, and I have no problem with them. I've purchased a number of these models with the intent of making these modifications. Atlas also ...
