About this product

Product Information

The authoritative translations of The Inferno , The Purgatorio , and The Paradiso -together in one volume. Belonging in the immortal company of the great works of literature, Dante Alighieri's poetic masterpiece, The Divine Comedy, is a moving human drama, an unforgettable visionary journey through the infinite torment of Hell, up the arduous slopes of Purgatory, and on to the glorious realm of Paradise-the sphere of universal harmony and eternal salvation. Now, for the first time, John Ciardi's brilliant and authoritative translations of Dante's three soaring canticles- The Inferno, The Purgatorio, and The Paradiso- have been gathered together in a single volume. Crystallizing the power and beauty inherent in the great poet's immortal conception of the aspiring soul, The Divine Comedy is a dazzling work of sublime truth and mystical intensity.

  • I am perfectly satisfited with product, and my experience in this tranactio

I have been searching for this translation in this edition for a long time, and finally found it. After all this time I was not disappointed. The language is fluid and lovely, the illustrations informative and usefully placed in the text. The itroductions and commentary are helpfull in comprehending the thoughts Dante wants to convey. I expect many hours of enjoyment and great potential spritual profit from reading this work again. The Book itself was of fine quality nad in great condition.

  • GREAT one

I haven't begun reading it yet; but, I've heard in college courses and Pastors that it's an awesome book.

  • Great Translation!

John Ciardi's translation of The Divine Comedy is fantastic! His introduction to each canto and his notes at the end of each canto are invaluable! The Divine Comedy is heavy reading, but this translation flows. I originally read a different translation which was written in prose and was rather difficult to follow, so I started from the beginning with Ciardi's translation and I am so glad that I did! I highly recommend this book.

  • A masterpiece that encompasses all...

An experience one will never forget as an exhaustive work...Ciardi's translations and notes are the best yet, and will remain so...a perfect readjustment from present prose, recommended to anyone who wishes to see a work of literature in its romantic roots, simply for its aesthetic- truly a beautiful work...

  • A new view of Dante's Divine Comedy

Excellent edition of the Divine Comedy. This edition is a didactic version that guides the reader throughout the poem. I highly recommend this book.
