Novel by Margaret Mitchell, published in 1936. Gone With the Wind is a sweeping, romantic story about the American Civil War from the point of view of the Confederacy. In particular it is the story of Scarlett O'Hara, a headstrong Southern belle who survives the hardships of the war and afterwards manages to establish a successful business by capitalizing on the struggle to rebuild the South. Throughout the book she is motivated by her unfulfilled love for Ashley Wilkes, an honorable man who is happily married. After a series of marriages and failed relationships with other men, notably the dashing Rhett Butler, she has a change of heart and determines to win Rhett back.

    Gone With the Wind

    I saw the movie first,and wanted to read the book. Margaret's book has more detail and character's in it. You learn about the other children that Scarlett had before Bonnie. The book is so rich in detail, it makes you feel that you are actually there in that time and space. I almost felt like I was Scarlett, there with Miss Melly giving birth to Bo, toiling in the field for food, escaping the fire of Atlanta. But most of all, feeling the arms of Rhett around me!! I laughed, cried, became angry, felt hatered, rejected and I felt love! I can't put into words all of the feelings I felt. It was kind of like a roller-coaster, up and down, side-to-side, exelerating

    I bought this for my DIL who loves old books and is an avid reader. She mentioned that she’d never read GWTW.
