About this product

    Product Information

Considering its elite heritage, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 has a lot to live up to. The Command and Conquer series essentially defined 2D real-time strategy on the PC and developer Westwood Studios continues to be a leader in that genre. Built on the Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun engine, Red Alert 2 has been tweaked to allow even larger battles and a more user-friendly interface. Units now can garrison in buildings, adding another strategic twist.

The Red Alert 2 episode takes place some time after the original Red Alert. Stalin is dead and has been replaced with the new "evil leader," General Romanov. Some of the action takes place close to home for the Allies in this episode, with Soviet forces invading New York City and Washington D.C. As Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 sticks to the same basic storyline and gameplay design while featuring new weapons and recognizable battlefields, real-time strategy fans should find it a worthy addition to Westwood's Command & Conquer series.

The best video game for Windows 98.

Best video game platform I’ve ever played. Been playing it for 20-plus years. Good thing it still works on Windows 7.

    • C&C RA2 - A GREAT real-time strategy game!

I had to buy a another copy as my initial one "wore out! - too many scratches..."! I actually bought 12 copies and distributed them to many of my son's and daughters friends. They all find it quite addictive! I often find 4-5 of them huddled around the computer offering each other suggestions. It is a great game from a technical viewpoint - very stable, reliable, and intuitively easy and natural to play without reading volumes of manuals. Any game that can maintain a kids attention for hours on end, and YEARS on end speaks for itself! I would like to see more maps and additional/alternative campaigns for 8 users. Additionally, it would be nice if you could import/export to other C&C versions (i.e. Generals). I'd also like to see civilians and economics ...

    • A game for a lifetime

Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 is the sequel to the popular 1996 spin-off of Westwood's definitive real-time strategy game. The latest game in the successful series isn't a dramatic technological improvement over any of its predecessors, and its hammy alternate-World War II setting borders on being tasteless. However, Red Alert 2 is a very polished game that combines tried-and-true play mechanics with enough new features, improvements, and enhancements to make it both an excellent sequel and a great real-time strategy game in its own right. Red Alert 2 features a campaign for both the Allies and the Soviets, in addition to a short optional tutorial. The campaigns span a dozen missions each, and they won't take too long to finish; but they offer a lot of variety, and ...

    • Still Amazing

I first owned this game 20+ years ago and I'm still happy to replace my damaged discs. I think that says it all. I highly recommend this entire series start to finish.

    • The original CDs are better than the newer bundled DVD versions of C&C

Classic game! The original game CDs are better than the newer ones that come in the collections of 10 or 13 C&C games. I installed all the games on the Decade DVD, and it added over 30 seconds to my computer's boot up time after a clean install because of all the copy protection. Also, the Decade Red Alert 1 version can be buggy. Unlike the previous Win9x only C&C games, This game was designed to work on Windows NT so no special installers or tricks need to be done on modern systems. It does use SafeDisc copy protection which does load a Windows driver. On some games that can cause problems if you're not an administrator and the SECDRV driver isn't set to load automatically. LAN play is done with IPX, so you need a 32-bit Windows older than Vista, or some software work around, to be able ...
