SPORTS NIGHT was the brainchild of Aaron Sorkin (A FEW GOOD MEN) and ran on ABC from 1998 until 2000 as a critically acclaimed look behind the scenes at a very SPORTSCENTER-like show from which the series takes its name. Peter Krause and Josh Charles star as Casey McCall and Dan Rydell, the show's anchors, with Rydell being the series's focal point as a young and slightly idealistic sports journalist who has an endearing way of standing up for the dignity of his profession. A behind-the-scenes look at the production of a television show, SPORTS NIGHT is not at all about sports, but about the show's frantic, often quirky characters who often have to wrestle with tough moral and ethical questions about journalism as well as the occasional turkey thawing on the hot lights above the anchor desk.

This was a great deal for the book. The shipping was super-fast. The only complaint I have is that it wasn’t mailed in a bubble envelope, but instead a thin plastic envelope. By the time I received the book, there were rips in the plastic envelope with one at the base of the book being several inches long, in which that portion of the book was exposed. I’d highly recommend to the seller to use a bubble envelope, even if you have to add that additional price to the overall item price.

TV sitcom/drama at its best.
Aaron Sorkin's first dabbling with TV series, it's mesmerizing how good the writing is, especially the first two shows, which took my breath away. Wish it hadn't ended with so few shows, but Sorkin was also working on West Wing: Sports Night lost.

Best Writing and Well Played Show Ever for Men or Women
This was a show that you would rush home to see as it was broadcasted although you had the VCR set to record the epsisode. The writing, fast paced banter, and chemistry between actors was hypnotic and brilliant in all areas. Never insulting to the viewer.. man or woman, it never played down to anyone. Great sports stories even for those not into sports weave into the interaction of the characters. It is sadly missed as is my first set of DVDs that I lended to a friend and never were returned. Am glad for the 10th Anniversary set though that I plan to order as soon as I finish this review! :) I started watching West Wing at the time just to get more of Aaron Sorkin and the same feel of creativeness. If you like West Wing, or sports, or quick banter that isn't laugh track ... This was a show that you would rush home to see as it was broadcasted although you had the VCR set to record the epsisode. Sad to see it go
We love the work of Aaron Sorkin and had heard wonderful things about this series, so we wanted to buy it. It is series that starts of slowly, in that it was attempting to be a comedy, and it took several episodes for them to lose the laugh-track and develop into the style that is typically Aaron Sorkin - funny, witty and not pandering. By the time the series ended, it had developed into a dramatic comedy, which was excellent. We counted 17 members of the cast who were also in other Aaron Sorkin productions. We only wish there had been many more seasons of this show to purchase.We love the work of Aaron Sorkin and had heard wonderful things about this series, so we wanted to buy it.
