About this product

Product Information

Director John Badham's hit film propelled John Travolta to stardom, made white polyester suits an instant fashion craze, and garnered praise for its portrayal of blue-collar life. Nineteen-year-old Brooklyn native Tony Manero (Travolta) lives for Saturday nights at the local disco, where he's king of the club, thanks to his stylish moves on the dance floor. But outside of the club, things don't look so rosy. At home, Tony fights constantly with his father and has to compete with his family's starry-eyed view of his older brother, a priest. Nor can he find satisfaction at his dead-end job at a paint store. However, things begin to change when he spies Stephanie (Karen Lynn Gorney) in the disco and starts training with her for the club's dance competition. Stephanie dreams of the world beyond Brooklyn, and her plans to move to the big city just over the bridge soon change Tony's life forever. This portrait of young Brooklyn natives struggling to escape their sheltered lives for freedom and adventure in the big city of Manhattan defined a generation of disco dancers and 1970s youths rebelling against the more traditional expectations of their parents. Set to the popular dance music of the Bee Gees, this instant cinematic sensation revealed the fashions and aspirations of an underground culture to the world.

  • Creepy, prognostic message...did you notice it?

Every now and then, a movie comes along, and makes an indelible, profound statement which lasts...in our minds...in our souls. Believe it or not, this is one of them. All the reviews written seem to say the same thing...great music, great dancing, great acting. I'd have given it five stars if not for the profanity, which would have been better if kept to a minimum so all age groups could appreciate it. Disco was short lived compared to crap stuff of these times, which doesn't want to die out yet. It had rythym and rhyme, and was understood. If you watch the movie thoroughly, like I had the opportunity to, you will pick up on a pretty scary message. I won't reveal that message, but I'll bet that funtrivia.com may have something about it under their movies section. If you are bright ...

  • Loved It

There are those who love disco. There are those who hate it. Those who hate disco may not be interested in this film at first. However, underneath the disco clothes and looks, this film contains an explicit deconstruction of the disco lifestyle as there was a dark side to the disco. Plus, Tony Manero and his friends have no thoughts for the future and indulge in drinking, drugs and sex on a daily basis, causing many problems in this film. Not to mention, this film does not make Tony's actions amazing but views them as bad choices that cause him to be miserable. That said, the writing is indeed top-notch, the acting is choice and it is joyful realistic as well as unsentimental and depressing in regards to the disco lifestyle. Makes disco seem even deader than it already is.

  • Poor Movie - Great Soundtrack and Dance Sequences

Although the music and dancing were very good, I didn't like the movie content. Too much profanity and the acting was subpar. Definitely not one of Travolta's better movies. If you like a good soundtrack and dancing sequences, buy this movie, otherwise, just purchase the soundtrack.

  • Saturday Night Fever (VHS 1991)

As the party planner for my office, I pick a movie theme each year; and, build a party around it. This year, Saturday Night Fever was the easy choice. With the movie playing on the screen, the soundtrack playing on CD, movie poster, lava lamp and disco ball, everyone could relate to the excitement of the '70s. (I still purchase VHS every chance I get.) Needless to say, a good time was had by all. Watching Saturday Night Fever is like visiting an old friend. So comfortable; just like your favorite pair of jeans.

  • Great timing!

Awesome timing! Came in really fast and looks in great shape.
