Synopsis
In 1738, the Spanish established the fort-town of Gracia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose as the first legal, free Black community in the United States. This book shows how the people of Fort Mose shaped Spanish international policy on slavery and provided inspiration for all slaves., More than 250 years ago, African-born slaves risked their lives to escape from slavery on English plantations in South Carolina. Hearing that the Spaniards in Florida promised religious sanctuary, the courageous Africans and their Indian allies created the first American underground railroad a century before the northbound railroad of the Civil War.

Smooth transaction for a very nice book. When the seller did not receive a notice of the items delivery, they reached out to make sure I had indeed received it. A very nice touch to be sure.
