Nice item- as we used to say: "Works fine, lasts a long time".

I got it for my 13 yo grandson as his school required them to get a TI-83+ or TI-84 for one of their courses. So far this one has performed as expected. Texas Instruments does a good job of supporting these products, and I downloaded a lot of documentation in PDF format, and burned it to CD-ROM for him- including the 827page guidebook!! It's a rather complicated device, a computer actually that is based on the ZILOG Z-80 8 bit processor which was used in several of the early 8 bit computers, like the KAYRO back in the '80s. The processor is embedded in a lot of 'microprocessor controlled' devices today so it is tried and true technology. He says it is doing the job for him and while it is not as fancy as the newer TI calculators, with color displays, you have to remember, mathematics ...

      • Top critical review

        Cheap

The screen does work as noted but powers on strange because of the button pattern needed to hold to turn it in and the wrinkled or damaged ribbon cable to the screen is bad because of the various screen effects. But the screen effect was not noted clearly in the description and only said that it has a boot defect and you had to hold two buttons to turn it on and it doesn't turn on normally. But the description said nothing about a screen issue. Overall I'm still going to keep it to repair.

      • TI-83 - the go-to calculator, and cheaper than the TI-84

Ti-83 - what can I say? This is the low-cost equivalent of the TI-84 -- all the features, just a little slower and a LOT cheaper. The TI-83/84 has been the go-to calculator for High School and college for last twenty years, and it continues to provide incredible power & value to math courses. A great machine! 'Nuff said.

      • Great for algebra 1 students

I'm a 9th grader in an algebra 1 class that requires a TI-83/84. I first planned on buying a new one, but I found out it costs more than $100. My second plan was to hop on eBay and search for a used/refurbished one. When I saw this amazing deal for a refurbished TI-83 I had my doubts but after reading the reviews and looking at the images I bought it for a total of $27. I'm pleased, it may not be in the best condition but it's just a calculator that I probably won't even use after a few years.

      • Great.... For 1999

This calculator is good for doing very basic things, but it lacks the capability of the 20 dollar basic Casio fx-300ES that I got last year. The graphing functionality works very well, but only functions work (not relations E.X. 1/(x^2+x+2)) It cannot simplify radicals, it has no functionality for solving algebraic equations, so if you are taking Trig and you need it, it is a great choice, but for anything more than that, it is inadequate.
