      • An old classic

I first read this book over 30 years ago and found the content compelling for an avid climber. I can still remember classic lines line Conrad Kain telling his partners on reaching the summit of Mt Robson after many previous attempts and finally realizing the first ascent, "Gentlemen, I can take you no farther." or the stories of the Gunks Vulgarians or Layton Kor's adventures. I made many of my climbing partners read it but most found it less exciting. The usual response was, "I liked the photos." Thus, it might be one of my favorites but it might not be yours. Most other good climbing histories are more regional. Chris Jones covers the US/Canada fairly comprehensively. At some point, someone did not return my copy so I felt the need to get another.
