    This is a Japanese Samurai film dressed up in medievel times.

    The more you watch this movie the more you think of those Japanese samurai films in which loyalty to a master rules all, but the time is out of joint since the movie is set in some indeterminate medieval world where swords, bows and arrows are enough to win battles. So Clive Owen is loyal to Morgan Freeman, and he sacrifices himself to avenge his master's death at the machinations of a villainous nobleman who is the inexplicable favorite of an emperor who is ambiguous in his morality. Lots of sword play, lots of people fighting and dying in a film overseen by a Japanese director. It's a reasonably good movie for action fans, but you are left wondering if you hadn't seen something similar and better in those Keanu Reeves and 47 Ronin films in the past. Freeman is resolute till his end, ...
