About this product

Product Information

The fates are not being kind to the Hatherleighs. First the head of the family, Sir Roger, is killed in a riding accident; then his young son John is found dead, his poor body horrifically beaten. Although the small West Country community is eager to believe his death was an unfortunate accident, it soon becomes clear that the truth is far more disturbing. This, the seventh mystery featuring Sir Baldwin Furnshill and Simon Puttock, is another absorbing medieval "whodunit."

The construction of the story and the sense of period are excellent' Shots 'A gem of historical storytelling...authentic recreation of the modes and manners, superstitions and primitive fears that made up the colourful but brutal tableau of the Middle Ages' Northern Echo 'Girt about with a goodly helping of period authenticity...ends up with a thrilling cop and robber chase on horseback' Oxford Times 'A goodly tale in the vein of Cadfael, and equally enjoyable' Coventry Evening Telegraph 'Like Ellis Peters' Cadfael, Puttock is a carefully drawn character who combines the whodunnit format with a loving attention to detail, with lively, intriguing descriptions. This is an outstanding seller to deal with. Fair prices that are more than reasonable in this economy. The product is in better condition than described, a true value for my money. Packaged and shipped well shows seller has concern for the products he sells to arrive in excellent condition. The seller is friendly and communicates timely with his customers. I highly recommend this seller and would do business again anytime. Thank you.

This seller has little respect for the way they ship or how they describe products. This product was probably the first they described correctly but it’s tossed in an envelope without any sort of padding because they don’t care at all. I get that it’s cheap. I ordered from them accidentally but will be sure not to do so again. They have no respect for their customers.

I am trying to read through all of his historical novels, as I have enjoyed all the others, starting with The Last Templar, and am up to # 10 written in 2000. These fill the hole in the one's I could find locally.
