Love the Bigsby, hate the Vibramate.
I love Bigsby Vibratos, so when I got my new Les Paul I wanted to put on it. I did not, however, relish the idea of drilling holes into the beautiful finish. Vibramate offers am alternative to this with their adapter kits. Unfortunately for everything the Bigsby B7 gives a guitar, the Vibramate takes away. The adapter plate is not made to be flush with the guitar's curved surface and therefore solid contact is not made. I really wish Vibramate had made this plate to follow the lines of the guitar but after installation it sits kind of cattywampus, at a tilt and because of that sustain is deadened and tone is thinned.I love Bigsby Vibratos, so when I got my new Les Paul I wanted to put on it. Bigsby B7 - VERY cool
I wasn't sure if I was going to like this after installing it...but once it was on, I was immediately happy. I put mine on an SG, which takes a little modification. The small hinge plate has to be reversed to clear the length of an SG. Not impossible, but took some effort. Looks and plays unbelievably well. I would even dare say it gave this guitar some "chime." I really dig the Vibramate bracket. It's the only reason I even considered trying a bigsby (didn't wanna drill holes). This thing goes on super easy. If you pay a few extra bucks for the string spoiler that they make, it's money well spent.I wasn't sure if I was going to like this after installing it...but once it was on, I was immediately happy. Bigsby B7 w/ vibramate for Les Paul
I installed this on my Les Paul standard and was blown away by the improved tone and playability. It is easy to install with the vibramate kit. I was impressed by the solid feel of the bigsby. It really adds a dimension to the Les Paul that more than compensates for the cost of the bigsby/vibramate. The good thing is if I want to go back to the stop bar tail piece, I can. There is no damage to the top when using the vibramate. I also used a Wilkinson roller bridge in place of the stock bridge. The tuning has been dead on and string bending has become easier. I would definitely recommend the Bigsby/vibramate for anyone who has been considering it. I have other guitars with B7 and B5 Bigsby's, but with the Vibramate kit, not only do you not have to drill any new holes, but the slightly higher angle of the arm improves the function of the B7, IMO. On to0p of that, the custom-shop R7 Les Paul I put it on seemed to play and sound better after the installation.
