Liquid magic for strong (and clean) plastic joins.

If you plan to join box panels or similar plastic construction, Plastruct is pure magic. It's super-thin, so capillary action makes it incredibly effective.Should I mention that it makes a really strong bond, too? I recommend that you invest in a few steel-needle "squeeze" bottles if you want a really clean join along clear plastic panels -- just touch the steel tip to the joint and let gravity and capillary action do the magic. (Caution: Don't over-fill the squeeze bottles - about 25% of the squeeze bottle volume is plenty. Over-filling will make it too easy to put too much of the liquid at the seam, thus causing puddling.) Also, I like to use Plastruct to attach very small pieces of plastic on my aircraft models -- I just tack the piece on and then (later) use the Plastruct bottle ...

    Doesn't live up to expectations

I got this to glue ABS plastic, and it does a very poor job. It does not weld within the short time that it claims, and even when it seems to be holding, the plastic came apart without too much effort. The person who recommended this to me said it also requires the use of an applicator, as this only has a little brush tool to put the glue on. However, if you have to buy another $10 item in order for this to work as it should, it's not worth your time and money.

  • good stuff, fast cure, easy on.

easy to use, fast cure, welds with almost no seam. For large runs, apply to both pieces, and maybe add just a little. Works good with a syringe and small tip.

  • Micro Mark"s Same Stuff Plastic Weld

I've bought a couple bottles of Micro Mark's Same Stuff and have been quite happy with it. It seems to have the same working properties that Tenax 7R had. It has been the perfect replacement for Tenax in my hobby room. It is easy to apply to seams and parts and literally welds the two parts into one. This formula is the best glue for permanent plastic seams. Always remember to close the lid after use, it will evaporate pretty quickly if you leave it open for a few days.

  • A 5 Star Solvent with a single flaw . . .

The solvent that makes this such an effective adhesive for most plastics (to me styrene and ABS) is the MEK(methylethylketone if I'm correct) and MEK evaporates at a very rapid rate and the plastic screw-on cap with the brush applicator is the "weak" point that the MEK leaks out through despite strong pressure in closing the twist-on plastic cap. I've used 3X artists red-sable brushes to apply a small amount to a plastic joint and let gravity do its work. Making a number of modest applications with a lightly-loaded(with solvent on a fine-tipped brush). I am also searching for metal screw-on caps for these glass bottles (that Plastruct uses) without any brushes - just the metal cap with a great 'seal' that will keep the MEK inside the bottle with the METAL (non-porous to MEK)cap tightly ...
