About this product

Product Information

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - From former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins comes a twelfth collection of poetry offering over fifty new poems that showcase the generosity, wit, and imaginative play that prompted The Wall Street Journal to call him "America's favorite poet." The Rain in Portugal --a title that admits he's not much of a rhymer--sheds Collins's ironic light on such subjects as travel and art, cats and dogs, loneliness and love, beauty and death. His tones range from the whimsical--"the dogs of Minneapolis . . . / have no idea they're in Minneapolis"--to the elegiac in a reaction to the death of Seamus Heaney. A student of the everyday, Collins here contemplates a weather vane, a still life painting, the calendar, and a child lost at a beach. His imaginative fabrications have Shakespeare flying comfortably in first class and Keith Richards supporting the globe on his head. By turns entertaining, engaging, and enlightening, The Rain in Portugal amounts to another chorus of poems from one of the most respected and familiar voices in the world of American poetry. Praise for The Rain in Portugal "Nothing in Billy Collins's twelfth book . . . is exactly what readers might expect, and that's the charm of this collection." -- The Washington Post "This new collection shows Collins] at his finest. . . . Certain to please his large readership and a good place for readers new to Collins to begin." -- Library Journal "Disarmingly playful and wistfully candid." -- Booklist

Reviews
"Imaginative thinking gives this collection its richness. . . . The work also shows a variety of styles . . . [that provide] both pleasure and a vivid example of how one's thoughts, when unrestrained, can lead to unexpected destinations." -- The Washington Post " The Rain in Portugal reminds us of the importance of wishes, and that as long as we have poetry, we are not alone." -- O Magazine "Disarmingly playful and wistfully candid." -- Booklist (starred review) From the Hardcover edition.

Product is 95% alike picture but a little more blurry. Controller play well but had a notice from psn that my joypad wasn't authentic and could by problematic🤷‍♂️ no trouble so far! Shipping was fast but no tracking and worst packaging ever.. like the box came banged up... send a question to seller never had a reply 😅.... Good product overall, excellent price, fast shipping, wrapped only on 4 sides out of 6, no tracking and never reply... 4★ product / 2★ seller ✌️

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!

  • Another great book of Billy Collins poems.

Billy Collins never dissapoints. His poetry is wonderful and very accessible. Even if you don't think your a fan of poetry, you will enjoy Billy Collins. This book is as good as any of his previous books. Many poems about places abroad he visited and the experiences getting there and being there. His unique insight is always delightful, and often very humorous. I highly recommend this book.
