A wealthy rancher, Frank Carter (Ralph Bellamy), hires four tough gunslingers to rescue his wife (Claudia Cardinale), who is being held captive by Captain Rasa (Jack Palance), one of Pancho Villa's most desperate revolutionaries, in this dynamic and hard-hitting Western set against the backdrop of the Mexican Revolution of 1917. The wild West commando team consists of a dynamite expert (Burt Lancaster), an ex-revolutionary and munitions expert (Lee Marvin), a horse specialist (Robert Ryan), and a tracker (Woody Strode). On their mission to return Carter's highly prized wife, they track the Mexican revolutionaries through rough and rugged desert terrain, determined to outsmart, outshoot, and outride anyone they come across--until they meet the the charismatic Rasa and discover that Carter's seductive wife is in love with the Mexican outlaw and has no intention of returning with the band of "professionals." Excellent cowboy movie with characters who looked the parts as well as they acted the parts. Joe Grant (Ralph Bellamy) is a multi-millionaire oil and cattle rancher on the Mexico border. His wife, Maria (Claudia Cardinale) has been kidnapped. He has received a ransom note demanding $100K in gold for her return. A call is going out to four men. Not ordinary men, but specialists; the kind of men who could go anywhere and make things happen. Henry Rico Fardan (Lee Marvin) Weapons expert; Bill Dolworth (Burt Lancaster) explosives; Jacob Sharp (Woody Strode) Knife and Long Bow expert; Hans Ehrengard (Robert Ryan) Packmaster. Together they cross the border into Mexico. Their mission is to take Mrs Grant by force, and if necessary to kill her kidnapper, Capt. Jesus Raza. Raza is an old associate ... This is accomplished by using arrows with sticks of dynamite. They all get a big surprise when they arrive and find out that Mrs. Grant wasn't kidnapped, but is Raza's lover. She and Raza have known eachother for years and were lovers long before she was promised to Mr.J.W. Grant as his wife. With the opportunity to kill Raza, they knock him out. In their escape across the desert, Ryan is wounded and the group is slowed down. Mrs Grant tries anything to get them to let her go, but the contract must be fulfilled. With Raza's men getting close, Rico takes the group ahead to the border, and Dolworth stays behind to slow Raza's group. In hit and run style, Dolworth picks them off one at a time, but doesn't kill Raza. There is still some respect left. AT the border, J.W. Grant is waiting for his wife. It isn't so much about her return, as it is his self image, shes not just his wife, she belongs to him! She vows that she will only run away again. Grant and his men see Raza and Grant orders him killed, but Dolworth and Rico won't allow it. Grant had already declared the contract fulfilled, and for them that was most important. Maria Grant and Raza return to Mexico.

BLOOD, GUTS, BRAVADO, A REAL CLASSIC!
Excellent class western with an outstanding cast. Very good storyline which justifies the violence which is not out of context. Over the years I have seen this movie many times and, yet, I enjoy it everytime I see it. Pair it up with the Wild Bunch for an excellent double feature. Both stories show a side of the west as the frontier is coming to an end for the gunslinger and outlaw. Both films have outstanding actors/acting, far better than most films today. Both films are classic westerns that will be enjoyable into the forseeable future.Excellent class western with an outstanding cast. I was so happy to have found this since its an old movie, and I got it on dvd! it was an entertaining movie and one I will keep for my collection. excellent price also. I was looking for this on dvd for quite awhile. I would reccomend to anyone to buy dvd's on ebay. saves alot of searching in stores and gas lookoing for a hard to find movie.It's a pleasure to receive your movie in the mailbox! couldn't be simpler. very impressed and satisfied with the whole procedure.I was so happy to have found this since its an old movie, and I got it on dvd! it was an entertaining movie and one I will keep for my collection. excellent price also.
