About this product

Product Information

In this remarkable tour de force of investigative reporting, James Bamford exposes the inner workings of America's largest, most secretive, and arguably most intrusive intelligence agency. The NSA has long eluded public scrutiny, but The Puzzle Palace penetrates its vast network of power and unmasks the people who control it, often with shocking disregard for the law. With detailed information on the NSA's secret role in the Korean Airlines disaster, Iran-Contra, the first Gulf War, and other major world events of the 80s and 90s, this is a brilliant account of the use and abuse of technological espionage.

Shipping was fast but no tracking and worst packaging ever.. like the box came banged up... send a question to seller never had a reply 😅.... Good product overall, excellent price, fast shipping, wrapped only on 4 sides out of 6, no tracking and never reply... 4★ product / 2★ seller ✌️

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!

  • NSA history from beginning up to 80's

I liked this book. The reason I bought is because of James Bamford's article in May 2006 issue of IEEE Spectrum magazine. He wrote about issues in domestic (U.S.) intelligence. About phone tapping, phone business records, and so on. The article mentioned Bamford's book, so I decided to read it. I checked the local libraries, but they all were listing this book as "checked out". This only heated up my interest. I checked Amazon too, however the book price on eBay was better. The main subject of The Puzzle Palace is National Security Agency (NSA). It is a U.S. government agency that makes sure that the government and military communications remain secret. It also performs intelligence functions (mostly electronic) acting in the interests of national security. Both functions rely on using ...

  • I recommend buying the hardcopy veersion.

Great inside look at the nation's top intelligence agency! Con, this book's content was terrible in that the print was so light that it was near impossible to read.

  • Puzzle Palace By James Bamford

I first read this account of the secret exsistance of the National Security Agency when at Warner Robbins A.F.B. when first released in 1983. James Bamford a former spook himself gives a penetrating look into Americas intelligence gathering networks and who really controls the security of the United States.I found it to be difficult reading at first with the introduction of a mulitude of names, dates and agencies involved. I was surprised to learn that the N.S.A. was more powerful than the C.I.A. and F.B.I. and actually directs the budgets of the other intelligence agencies. At that time the little known N.S.A. had a free hand to investigate via electronic ease dropping on anyone in the world without court or White House approval. With the ability to listen in on millions of calls around ...

  • The Puzzle Palace by James Bamford

Word of mouth sent me to this book about our cold war heritage. It was written in an informative style giving clear character depth. For ease of reading, I would have preferred more use of fictional work not relying on accurate descriptions or analysis.
