Superfriends fianlly begins to reflect it's DC Comics source material!!
The producers take great strides this season to have the show more closely reflect the tone of the original source material ( Justice League of America ). The show was actually better than the comic book counterpart at this time as it consisted of some not so super characters. The classic DC Comics archetypes ( Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman ) are all on deck here along with Jacky "King" Kirby's Fourth World creations. Darksied provides actual menace! The late Adam West now voices Batman and Firestorm makes his animation debut. This set also includes a great retrospective as the producers weigh in on the joys and limitations of that era. They are joined by comic book historian, Mark Waid who brings his usual wit and insight as well as a number of entertaining commentaries on several ... Holy Super Friends Adventures Batman !
For most kids growing up in the 70's, nothing would make a Saturday morning complete than watching the various incarnations of the Super Friends. This version actually came out in the mid 80's, but it's vintage Super Friends in all their glory. This series had Darkseid as it's main villain, and introduced the hero Firestorm to the cartoon viewers. Almost every episode had Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman & Robin in them. The stories were also heavy on Samauri, Apache Chief and El Dorado with at least one of them in every episode, and the Wonder Twins only showed up in around 3 of the shows. It's No Justice League Unlimited
Overall I remember this show being better when I was younger watching the reruns on Saturday mornings. Overall if you’re not a true DC Universe fan this TV show isn’t for you. Mostly for the fact that it was a children’s show so the plots are easily solved problems and the dialogue is quite cheesy!!! For a taste of what it’s like turn on a foreign game show and try and watch in seriously …it’s just not going to happen. Now maybe Justice League and Justice League Unlimited have spoiled me I don’t know. I don’t know but I wouldn’t recommend this item to anyone but true fans unless you are familiar with the show already. About the only thing this show does is complete my DC Comics Animated Universe DVD collection.Overall I remember this show being better when I was younger watching the reruns on Saturday mornings. it started to get better here
