Plus: a chapter on Air Accidents by Leighton Collins, founder and editor of AIR FACTS. His analyses of aviation's safety problems have deeply influenced pilots and aeronautical engineers and have contributed to the benign characteristics of today's airplane.     This is the book that teaches you how an airplane flies.

    This is the book that teaches you how an airplane flies. It was written back around WWII era by an educator and flight instructor. The prose is a little dated and repetitive but the theory and practical lessons in the book are without question the most comprehensive discussion on flight theory and practice you'll find under one cover. I had a copy of this book 40 yrs ago when I first started flying. Now that I'm getting back in to flying all these years later I bought another copy as my refresher course.

    I get it. Any airman is 6 degrees away from a stall at any time but geez! Stall stall ya do ya stall yer stalling.....good grief. Too much old old, did I say old prose? If you can stay awake and don’t stall, it’s ok.

    Worth the read, needs studying

    Somewhat out of date referring mostly to taildraggers. But as a wannabe pilot I found it killed lots of myths. I will have to read it at least one more and probably several more time for it all to make sense.

    Become a better pilot, read this book

    Written in 1944, a time when computers, electronics and GPS were unknown, this book is filled with straight forward advice on how a pilot should fly his plane without having to rely on electronics. Just the chapter on landing is worth the price. Page after page has all these little tricks you can use to become a safer and better flyer. I bought the book because and article in EAA's Sport Pilot magazine recommended it.
