Couldn’t put it down
I’m a fan of JMS… I first became aware of him though his comics writing. I noticed that whenever I read his work… I always enjoyed it. He creates what I feel to be intelligently written, interesting, and entertaining stories. I knew he was the mastermind behind BABYLON 5, but up until two months ago, I had never seen any of it. I finally watched it on HBO MAX and I absolutely loved it. After watching that, I naturally wanted to learn more about him. I found out about this book on JMS’s own FB group and bought it. I’m so glad I did. The first half of this book is a brutal read. JMS went through some horrible experiences growing up, and the first half details this. As tough as it is to read, there is a reason he includes this material. It helps us realize why he was so driven ... I’m a fan of JMS… I first became aware of him though his comics writing. There are so many examples of “a million to one” in JMS’s life, that it’s uncanny what has happened to him good and bad. In reading this book, I found myself close to tears, laughing, angry, elated, happy, but always cheering him on. When folks write their biographies… they always tend to make themselves the squeaky clean hero. JMS doesn’t do that. He shows us that he is not without faults and this humanizes him. I found this refreshing. You get a good picture of who he is from this book. The epilogue contains choice information that can help all of us. It brings everything together. I highly recommend this book. JMS fans and aspiring writers will really enjoy it.
