About this product

Product Information

Part blistering espionage thriller, part riveting police procedural, and part piercing expos on social injustice, this second book in the Millennium series is a masterful, endlessly satisfying novel. Mikael Blomkvist, crusading publisher of the magazine Millennium , has decided to run a story that will expose an extensive sex trafficking operation. On the eve of its publication, the two reporters responsible for the article are murdered, and the fingerprints found on the murder weapon belong to his friend, the troubled genius hacker Lisbeth Salander. Blomkvist, convinced of Salander's innocence, plunges into an investigation. Meanwhile, Salander herself is drawn into a murderous game of cat and mouse, which forces her to face her dark past.

"[A] gripping, stay-up-all-night read."-- Entertainment Weekly "Boasts an intricate, puzzle-like story line . . . even as it accelerates toward its startling and violent conclusion."--Michiko Kakutani, The New York Times "Gripping stuff. . . . A nail-biting tale of murder and cover-ups."-- People "You might as well give up on the idea of sleep till you've finished the book."-- Dallas Morning News "Buzzes with ideas [and] fizzes with fury."-- Los Angeles Times "[A] dynamite thriller."-- Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel "Lisbeth Salander [is] one of the most startling, engaging heroines in recent memory."-- USA Today "Brilliant. . . .Grabbed me and kept me reading with eyes wide open."-- Alan Cheuse, San Francisco Chronicle "I couldn't put down The Girl Who Played with Fire and eagerly await book three. . . . You must find out what happens next."-- Erica Marcus, Newsday "Lisbeth Salander could be the female Jason Bourne . . . It's an intelligent, fascinating story that draws readers in, and keeps them turning the page." -- Associated Press "A combustible new thriller . . . Extremely well-written--Larsson's minimalist prose is frosted with Scandinavian cool. . . . Burns with blue-flame intensity. . . . Larsson keeps a tight rein on the bullet-train plot."-- San Antonio Express-News "A dynamite thriller." --Variety "Fantastic . . . Like all the great stories of just avengers that populate literature, this trilogy is secretly comforting, making us think that maybe all is not lost in this imperfect and deceitful world of ours. . . . Welcome to the immortality of fiction, Lisbeth Salander!"-- Mario Vargas Llosa, El Pas "Enthralling. . . . Confirms the impression left by Dragon Tattoo." --Washington Post "Will likely confirm Larsson's position as the most successful crime novelist in the world." --Slate From the Paperback edition., Advance reviews: "A suspenseful, remarkably moving novel . . . This is the best Scandinavian novel to be published in the U.S. sinceSmilla's Sense of Snow. . . Salander is one of those characters who come along only rarely in fiction: a complete original, larger than life yet firmly grounded in realistic detail, utterly independent yet at her core a wounded and frightened child . . . One of the most compelling characters to strut the crime-fiction stage in years." Booklist(starred) "Fans of postmodern mystery will revel in Larsson's latest . . . also starring journo extraordinaire Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander, the Lara Croft of the land of the midnight sun . . . Lisbeth is really a Baltic MacGyver with a highly developed sense of outrage, a sociopathic bent and brand-new breast implants, to say nothing of a well-stuffed bankbook . . . Some of the traditional elements of the espionage thriller turn up in Larsson's pages, while others are turned on their head . . . Still, while endlessly complex, the plot has the requisite chases, cliffhangers and bloodshed. Not to mention Fermat's theorem." Kirkus Reviews Reviews from abroad: "As good as crime writing gets . . . Completely absorbing and engaging on both a narrative and a moral level . . . Lisbeth Salander [is] a remarkable heroine." The Times Literary Supplement "The huge pleasure of these books is Salander, a fascinating creation with a complete and complex psychology . . . Salander is recognisably a Lara Croft for grown-upsa female Terminator." The Guardian "Addictive . . . We are in the hands of a master . . . Salander and Blomkvist [are] the finest and strangest partnership in crime fiction since Holmes and Watson . . . Stunningly memorable." Scotland on Sunday "The Girl Who Played with Fireis that rare thinga sequel that is even better than the book that went before . . . A combination of urgent, multilayered thriller, traditional police procedural and articulate examination of the way a supposedly open-minded country like Sweden treats its vulnerable women and children." The Observer "With the spiky and sassy Salander, Larsson created the most original heroine to emerge in crime fiction for many years . . . She seizes the book by the scruff of its neck and binds the reader in fetters of fascination." The Independent "This second novel is even more gripping and astonishing than the first. What makes it outstanding is the author's ability to handle dozens of characters and parallel narratives without losing tension. Larsson was a fantastic storyteller. This novel will leave readers on the edge of their seats." The Sunday Times(London) "The best thriller I've read in ages . . . If you want a book to take on your lifetime trip on the Trans-Siberian railway,The Girl Who Played With Fireis the one." Evening Herald(Ireland) From the Hardcover edition., "[A] gripping, stay-up-all-night read."-- Entertainment Weekly "Boasts an intricate, puzzle-like story line ... even as it accelerates toward its startling and violent conclusion."--Michiko Kakutani, The New York Times "Gripping stuff.... Itbuzzes with ideas [and] fizzes with fury." Los Angeles Times "A dynamite thriller." Liz Smith,Variety "These books grabbed me and kept me reading with eyes wide open with the same force as the best of the series on the TV monitor . . . Move over, Tony Soprano . . . Blomkvist is a wonderfully appealing character. And the girl of the title is one of the most fascinating characters in modern genre fiction." Alan Cheuse,San Francisco Chronicle "A nail-biting tale of murder and cover-ups in which the victims are tantalizingly hard to distinguish from the villains. . . Believe the hype . . . It's gripping stuff." People "Another gripping, stay-up-all-night read." Entertainment Weekly "Lisbeth Salander [is] one of the most startling, engaging heroines in recent memory . . . Some of the books' appeal comes from the Swedish setting, but most of it is a result of the author writing from the heart, not from a formula. Larsson clearly loved his brave misfit Lisbeth. And so will you." USA Today "The Girl Who Played with Fireconfirms the impression left byDragon Tattoo. Here is a writer with two skills useful in entertaining readers royally: creating characters who are complex, believable, and appealing even when they act against their own best interest; and parceling out information in a consistently enthralling way." Washington Post "Lisbeth Salander was one of the most original and memorable heroines to surface in a recent thriller: picture Angelina Jolie's Lara Croft endowed with Mr. Spock's intense braininess and Scarlett O'Hara's spunky instinct for survival . . . Now Salander is back in an even more central role . . . The reason it works is the same reason thatDragon Tattooworked: Salander and Blomkvist transcend their genre and insinuate themselves in the reader's mind through their oddball individuality, their professional competence and, surprisingly, their emotional vulnerability." Michiko Kakutani,The New York Times "A suspenseful, remarkably moving novel . . . This is the best Scandinavian novel to be published in the U.S. sinceSmilla's Sense of Snow. . . Shipping was fast but no tracking and worst packaging ever.. like the box came banged up... send a question to seller never had a reply 😅.... Good product overall, excellent price, fast shipping, wrapped only on 4 sides out of 6, no tracking and never reply... 4★ product / 2★ seller ✌️

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!

    Fabulous Series

The Girl series is one of the best ever written. I bought this book to send to my mother who just got into it too. She loves it as much as I do. With all the cliche-ridden cookie-cutter books being written, it is a pleasure to read something so compelling and so wonderful.

  • Very Interesting Book

I decided to buy this book because I liked "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo". "The Girl Who Played with Fire" is the second of three in this series. These books were translated from Swedish so sometimes the translation doesn't click though. Like the first one it was hard to put down and I read it in less than a week. Before you read this book make sure you know it can be kind of disturbing. The author captured some of the worst aspects of human behavior and what someone is capable of doing to another human being. Those are the parts that could be a "bit much" if you're skiddish. If you like a good page turning intense mystery this might be the series for you. I would give it a strong R rating due to the content. It's a well written book that keeps you on the edge of your seat. ...

  • The Girl who Played With Fire

Steig Larrson has continued his spellbinding trilogy with the second installment, "The Girl Who Played With Fire." This page-turning sequel to "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" echoes past voices of Agatha Christie, Sidney Sheldon, and Tom Clancy. Larrson has undoubtledly placed himself among these time tested icons. Lisbeth Salander has been accused of a triple homicide, but her pal, Mikhal Blomkvist, is convinced of her innocence. As Salander sets out to prove her case, she comes face to face with her troubled and tragic past, unraveling revelations of a life hindered by the law, the justice system, and the Swedish government. She and Blomkvist must prove her innocence while exposing a deadly sex-trafficking trade, the mysterious leader of which, is Salander's ultimate nemesis. This ...

  • Girl Who Played with Fire is definitely a "good read" for the mystery lover

After seeing the Swedish film, then the American version of the first in the 3 book series, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I read the first book. It was so exciting and thrilling that I moved to the 2nd book, The Girl who Played with Fire, that picks up where the first book left off. As a big mystery / thriller book fan, I found this 2nd book just as amazing and exciting as the first book. My favorite point about the way Mr. Larson writes these books is that he keeps you guessing. Just about the time I think I have figured out what is happening next, he changes it and I am surprised. This is very important for mystery lovers. I usually always figure out what is going to happen - not so with both of these books. Because it is taking place in a foreign country, the names and ...

  • The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson

I read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo earlier this fall. It was a good read so I was anxious to get the second in this series, The Girl Who Played With Fire. It too is good, one you want to keep reading to see what happens next. I feel it was too discriptive of the Lesbian relationship. In the book, the heterosexual relationships are not described in as much detail, yet you know who is having sex with who. That's how I would prefer to read about the lesbian relationship also. Aside from that, I loved the book and am going to read the next one as soon as Christmas is over.
