About this product

Product Information

About This Book "No amount of wisdom could possibly make sense of the mysterious verdict which God intended through this duel." A new translation of a key work by one of European literature's most important early writers. One of the few novellas written by the master German playwright, The Duel was considered by Thomas Mann and others to be one of the great works of German literature. The story of a virtuous woman slandered by a nobleman, it is a precise study of a subject that fascinated von Kleist: That people are sometimes seemingly punished for their very innocence. This Is A Melville House "HybridBook" HybridBooks are a union of print and electronic media: Purchasers of this print edition also receive Illuminations --additional curated material that expand the world of Kleist's novella through text and illustrations--at no additional charge. Reviews
Praise for "The Art of The Novella" "I wanted them all, even those I'd already read." -Ron Rosenbaum, The New York Observer "Small wonders." - Time Out London " [F]irst-rate&astutely selected and attractively packaged&indisputably great works." -Adam Begley, The New York Observer "I’ve always been haunted by Bartleby, the proto-slacker. But it’s the handsomely minimalist cover of the Melville House edition that gets me here, one of many in the small publisher’s fine 'Art of the Novella' series." - The New Yorker "The Art of the Novella series is sort of an anti-Kindle. What these singular, distinctive titles celebrate is book-ness. They're slim enough to be portable but showy enough to be conspicuously consumed-tiny little objects that demand to be loved for the commodities they are." -KQED (NPR San Francisco) "Some like it short, and if you're one of them, Melville House, an independent publisher based in Brooklyn, has a line of books for you... elegant-looking paperback editions ...a good read in a small package." - The Wall Street Journal, "A rousing, cinematic read - and a fine sample of Melville House's new HybridBook series, which offers electronic bonus material (such as illustrated dueling instructions)."  ---Flavorwire

Product is 95% alike picture but a little more blurry. Controller play well but had a notice from psn that my joypad wasn't authentic and could by problematic🤷‍♂️ no trouble so far! Shipping was fast but no tracking and worst packaging ever.. like the box came banged up... send a question to seller never had a reply 😅.... Good product overall, excellent price, fast shipping, wrapped only on 4 sides out of 6, no tracking and never reply... 4★ product / 2★ seller ✌️

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!
