After rescuing a kidnapped exorcist in China and battling occult forces in World War I-torn France, Shadow Hearts fans turn their attention to budding romance and supernatural mystery in "the New World." This third game in the series is designed in the same style as earlier Shadow Hearts adventures, with a turn-based "Judgment Ring" battle system and a cast of well-developed characters, both friend and foe. However, the new heroes, setting, and storyline are intended to appeal to Shadow Hearts neophytes as well as veterans.<br><br>Set in America during the Great Depression of the 1930s, the game places players in the role of Johnny Garland. Johnny is a young man with a rough past who aspires to be a detective. While hunting after an escaped criminal, Johnny witnesses the fleeing man enveloped by a strange, green light, never to be seen again. He soon learns that this disappearance is not an isolated incident, and eventually meets Shania, a Native American bounty hunter who is also investigating the anomalies. Together, the two make their way across the country in search of answers.

Love this game too
Good graphics, interesting characters and story, the music is OK, Shania's fusions are gorgeous, and the replay value is good. The game tries too hard to be funny when it should be serious, but that is my only complaint other than how useless Johnny is. Johnny's phrase when he takes photos will drive you crazy. If you actually decide to take photos like you should, you will hear that phrase a million times. Frank is the MVP. Good graphics, interesting characters and story, the music is OK, Shania's fusions are gorgeous, and the replay value is good. I had never heard of the series Shadow Hearts. I dont know HOW I could have missed the existence of this game. However I'm glad I got the chance to find out what it was about before this game would be declared "rare" and hard to find like the first one is right now. This game will make you smile because its funny. I wouldnt say dead-hilarious but its funny. I enjoyed each character even though at first I was a bit skeptical, especially with the big white cat. Each Character has a handful of sidequests that WILL keep you busy, thats what makes the game so dang-on long. The sidequests are extremely helpful when it comes to the Characters equipment, weapons, abilities and Steller Magic. Also when you do their sidequests, they each have a place of their own on the world map that you can visit ... I had never heard of the series Shadow Hearts. I Think its safe to say that there is NO loading time in this game. Its quick, especially when you Load or walk into the next area. Its nice to have a game that doesnt make you stair at a black tv. The difficulty of this game will leave you gritting your teeth. There are some things in this game you will have to do that will take ALOT of time, so if you like a challenge, this is the game for you. the graphics are pretty nice, i wouldnt say perfect, but it's really nice and smooth. When i first played the game, it reminded me so much of Final Fantasy X. I do NOT know why, I guess you can say it was probably the graphics. The music was okay, the only annoying part about it was that almost every temple or land area they went into, had the same music playing. but other than that, you'll enjoy the battle music. It Jams good! :p There is a New Game at the end, however I just finished it and discovered that you don't really get to keep everything you had from the previous, which really, really sux. There are SOME connections to Shadow Heart: Covenant. To understand the little things better, i would play THAT game first (which i bought :)) The most annoying part of this game is waiting on the enemies to finish up with their combos or attacks. Its annoy is heck. If you are familiar with Double and Triple from Final Fantasy, then this game is alot like it, only its called Combos and Double which comes in handy 99.9% of the time. Your magic can also upgrade or level up, it costs a fortune though if you want to completely leve it up on the steller chart. The Menu is packed with alot of things to look at. It will give you the option to see your status so far, like how many times you've escaped and your performances in battle. Each character has their own space called "Personal" where you can read up on their biogrpahy and look at their status. it has an animation where you can see a preview of how they attack. There is also a very neat option of putting your characters into seperate teams and you can even name the team. you can use the L1 button i believe to do a convient-quick switch or go to the menu and do the same. The game is awesome. I would buy it.

It's not to bad.
This is the third of the Shadow Hearts series. The graphics are great and the gameplay is great. The battle system is greatly enhanced and much much better then the other Shadow Hearts. I gave this a 4 for one reason it is to short in my taste for being a RPG. In my opinion it is a great game to play and own well worth the value of it but it is too short. I like long RPG games ones that give 80 to 120 hours of great game play. This does not give you 80 hours of game play I beat this in about 55 hours. You like the series this game is a must have if you are looking for a long RPG go somewhere else this is not that long.This is the third of the Shadow Hearts series. The major advantage to this game is that you don't necessarily have to have played Shadow Hearts 1 or 2 to understand what's going on. If you have it will add much more depth though. The story SH is new and original, which is something that can be found in all of the Shadow Hearts. With seven characters, you are bound to like at least one of them. Each character is also completely different from the next offering variety in story, personality and in battle. The game takes around 20-30 hours to beat if you really don't do any sidequests. If you decide to do some of the sidequests the game can take more than fifty hours plus once you beat the game you can ... Also once you beat the game you get theater mode which allows you to see all of the major cinema scenes which great too. The battle system in the SH series is something unique as well as the story and characters. The system is turn based but the judgement rings keeps battle from being dull and repetitive. When you do anything in battle a ring appears and a line goes clockwise around the ring. You must hit the x button at the right time in order to do maximum damage to an opponent. There are also many many ways to customize the judgement ring to your liking if the ring is too fast or slow among many other adjustments. It seems complex at first but it really does make battle interesting since every battle turns out differently. I purchased this game because I had played the first two SH and they are one of my very favorite games. If you love quirky humor, rpgs and an excellent story then this game is for you.

Shadow Hearts is a series that needs a comeback!
While not as dark as the previous games in the series, this is still a stellar game with great characters and a wonderful story! Truly a classic from an era when RPGs were at their best! It's amazing to play this series in order, but this title does a great job of standing on its own as well!
