About this product

Product Information

In this action-packed disaster film set in America's heartland, an ex-husband-and-wife team of storm chasers rushes to be the first to study the dynamics of tornados with some fascinating new technology. Though Helen Hunt (AS GOOD AS IT GETS) and Bill Paxton (APOLLO 13) star--along with a pre-fame Philip Seymour Hoffman--the uncredited lead roles are the tornados, created with eye-dazzling computer-generated effects. SPEED director Jan de Bont takes the helm for this massive box office hit, while bestselling author Michael Crichton contributed the fast-moving story. TWISTER earned Academy-Award nominations for its achievements in sound and visual effects.

    TIMELESS CLASSIC

My grandchildren age 5 and 8 love to watch this on TV so I bought it to go on a long road trip vacation. It is action packed and living in a tornado state it is something they are interested in. The only drawback was TV sensors language and I had forgotten the frequent use of off limit words for their ages. But the tornado scenes and the intent that they are trying to get a way to give more warning of one is exciting

  • Twister - DVD movie

One of my favorite movies personally. Lots of excitement, fast paced, good and varied soundtrack (which you can also purchase seperately), as well as a reasonably good story line complete with relationships. Admitedly a bit hoaky in the realm of reality and not very accurate if you're looking for a scientifically realistic portrayal of tornados. Description: The main character, Jo, driven by a traumatic past, chases tornados in an effort to help increase warning time. In order to do this she and her team must place a device called 'Dorothy' in the path of a tornado that if sucked up will reveal all the information the group needs to study the nature of tornados, then get back out of the path before the tornado sucks her up too. Blinded by her drive, Jo may be missing her last opportunity ...

  • Excellent movie with many references to other movies.

Twister has at least five references to other movies. Bill Paxton's tornado measuring machine is named Dorothy (from The Wizard of Oz, naturally), lines of dialogue are lifted from Star Wars ("that's no moon, that's a space station"), and Repo Man ("normal people spend their lives avoiding tense situations, Repo Man spends his life trying to get into tense situations.") In one scene, a twister rips apart a drive-in playing The Shining, and Helen Hunt's aunt watches Judy Garland in A Star Is Born on TV. Not to mention that the whole movie is sort of a remake of His Girl Friday.

  • Twister - One Of The Greatest Stupid Movies Of All Time

This probably doesn't need much of a review; its a pretty famous movie. I think alot of people hold it in high regard, myself included. It is a completely entertaining film about a group of storm chasers, who have stuck gold with a large wave of heavy storm activity. For a documentary film, that alone would be exciting enough to warrant a film. This is Hollywood however, and love interests and arch enemies are necessary. The love interest comes in the form of Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt; two married, and totally obsessed tornado chasers with the dream of seeing the Tornado research device they have worked on finally get its chance to fly. The problem is, life has driven a wedge between them, and they have gone their separate ways. The only thing left is for Hunt's character to finalize the ...

  • Great effects, some outsize characters, rolling plotline

Helen Hunt holds back and lets her face do some of the acting here. The effects are engaging and thorough and entirely believable. The bad guy does everything but wear a black hat and the second woman is shallow until she's cornered but it's still a good yarn well told. And the whirligigs. Yes, the whirligigs.
