About this product

Product Information

Sydney Pollack directs this wonderful star-driven romp. Robert Redford plays Norman "Sonny" Steele, a former rodeo star who winds up working in a demeaning job in Las Vegas for a massive corporation, AMPCO. Sonny learns that his employer has purchased a $12 million racehorse as part of a merger. To protect the horse from being drugged with tranquilizers and generally mistreated, he steals it, freeing both himself and the horse. This sparks the curiosity of savvy broadcast journalist Alice "Hallie" Martin (Jane Fonda), who follows after him. Soon Fonda catches up to Redford and discovers the personal and political logic behind his choice to return the horse to its native grazing land far from the clutches of corporate greed. Aware that Sonny's wishes for the horse are the same ones he has for himself, she falls for him. The film is packed with beautiful scenery in remote western settings.

  • Great movie but only with original soundtrack.

The Electric Horseman is a great movie with wonderful performances by Robert Redford and Jane Fonda including strong supporting roles from Willie Nelson and Wilford Brimley. How can one not love a film that portrays good and evil when Robert Redford, who portrays an ex-world champion rodeo cowboy hired by a mega American corporation to peddle their breakfast cereal, decides to "steal" their corporate symbol, a beautiful stallion, who has been abused by the corporation in their marketing scheme. He plans to return him to the wild. Jane Fonda plays the reporter who follows the story and ultimately develops a budding relationship with Redford. The chemistry between the two was the best. The primary reason for purchasing this version (1998 from Image Entertainment) is because it is the ...

  • Complete movie with no deleted scenes

I bought this dvd on a differant site a while back. However the most important scene had been deleted. The one where he releases the horse. That scene makes the movie and without it the movie is just not the same. The dvd I got from this site has the complete movie and it is very entertaining. I will be watching it over and over.

  • The Electric Horseman (DVD, 1998)

A movie that has perhaps been overlooked. Robert Redford plays a former rodeo champ who takes his current employers( a cereal maker) race horse from a Las Vegas casino, and Jane Fonda plays an investigative reporter who tracks Redford and the horse down. Along the way there is some wonderful Western scenery, a horse and police car and motorcycle chase, and romance. Redford and Fonda are in top form, and the chemistry between them mirrors the story line. The supporting actors such as Willie Nelson, John Saxon, and Wilfred BrImley are well cast. I haven't watched the later (2003) version DVD but bought the 1998 version because others had told me that in the 2003 some of the Willie Nelson soundtrack has been cut out/edited.
